The cabin of a freight elevator is required to have a minimum height of 8 feet (2.4 m), width of 6 feet (1.8 m), and depth of 5 feet (1.5 m) to accommodate large items. If the counterweight is mounted on the side, the width of the shaft should be the cabin width plus 4.3 feet (1.3 m), and the depth of the shaft should be the car depth plus 2 feet (0.6 m).
