Mezclado Cloud

Is not only a tribute of the golden era of cocktails but my own history living on Vancouver island and the history of Nicaragua - colonized by both the Spanish and the British, the name symbolizing that colonial mix, my ancestry, the sustainable ingredients, texture of the drink: the cloud like fluffiness. My first bartender’s choice cocktail I ordered here in Victoria was a flip style cocktail. I felt compelled to tie the parallel between cocktail history and my own past experience of this community on the island together. And so my inspiration to create a sustainable creative twist on a classic cocktail is the based on the rum flip.

This was the perfect template to showcase what sustainability means to me; compassion and common sense, courage and stewardship of the land, collective conservation, community and conscious effort. Compassion is simply loving trees, animals, flora and Mother Earth. I fly commercial not private (wouldn’t it I could), I bicycle instead of drive, I buy local etc. Utilizing courage to be a steward of the land by using a home grown egg in my sustainable cocktail from my now old backyard. Having an edible garden at home & work has enabled me to focus off what local and seasonal. Collective conservation is a big part of my sustainable cocktail. By using donated lemons to Food Not Bombs I’ve reduced food waste and imparted community into my cocktail. Conscious efforts were made at each step to make sure each ingredient be sustainable from the reused glass & spent coffee grinds to local cider, zero waste sherry and fair trade raw cane sugar.

It’s a matter of mindset shift and knowing your capacity. Being able to implement change in a creative way has made this challenge such a rewarding experience. I believe the Mezclado Cloud embodies a shift towards a sustainable future.

I Moved!🏠

White House not white picket fence - that ain’t me. That’s just another barrier. Gardens, chickens & fireplace > white picket fence any day. I’m so excited about this new year, new chapter and new home albeit a little nervous cause it be crazy and uncertain rn but, a little crazy never hurts.

This chapter’s theme is Gaia and this month the focus for my happiness project is attitude - to keep a contented heart. The magnitude of AFLE/AFOG I’ve had in my last chapter came with all sort of emotions, blessings and suffering. However they created a beautiful sense of self and reminded me of importance of letting go and staying true to myself. I’m ready to laugh out loud, have an attitude of “I must,” move in a peak state, give positive reviews. I’m ready for this new chapter. Hope y’all are enjoying this winter wonderland as much as I am.❄️🥰✌🏽 by @trvrcrs

1st Day of 2025, 364 days left. I’m so glad 2024 is done.

I’m reflecting on the communities I’ve been a part of all over the world throughout my life, some of which I’m still apart of especially here on Turtle island. I’m grateful to be in an industry that has such a strong global community. Along with my prescribed Mantra for 2025: Gratitude. Breakthrough. Strength. Self Care., my self prescribed 2025 Mantra is: Commit. Heal. Give. Accountability. The need for continued community involvement is real and massive. A lot is going to change this year and a new reality for both me and my communities will be created. I’m excited for what the change will bring!✨ taken in Turtle Island by @trvrcrs

Today isn’t so much about the grief of losing my mom rather it’s about the gratitude in grief. There’s real gratitude in recollection. There’s real gratitude when I reach for a memory of a happy moment with my mom that I’ve never told before and I can’t find one. I’m still reaching nonetheless. I’m losing her over and over and over but, by loosing her I can return to the site when she was living that I can recall and that’s celebratory.

Now I’m holding the present a lil closer, treasuring the people still in my life, helping friends, finding joy in the little things, going with the flow, trailblazing, having fun and being with the ones I love most. Gratitude in grief is about honouring the love and meaning that makes that pain so real.

I know my mom is proud of me. I’m proud of myself for showing up and helping friends and organizations that are making a difference. I’m happy and proud of my siblings and Dad. It’s so cool that I have a family that want to spend time together with me and the amazing people showing up to cook for @foodnotbombs_vic , journey through a sound bath together for the first time, hike to Mystic beach, to explore, adventure, try new foods, reject capitalistic traditions and have fun while on their vacation visiting me from Jamaica, Guelph and Nelson separately.

I love that they are independent, open minded and curious just like me and my mom was. Now, as the day comes to an end I’m going to go read a letter she wrote me before she passed and try to recall her voice, returning to the site of her living and celebrate. by @trvrcrs
