Sometimes, having another person alongside you can make a difference.

Mind-body work can involve noticing patterns, working through fears or setbacks, and practicing new ways of responding to symptoms. Having someone to talk through those experiences with can offer a different kind of support.

That’s why we’re excited to introduce human mind-body coaching at Nervana.

We now have four coaches, with more to come, all with different backgrounds, approaches, and areas of experience, so you can find someone who feels like the right fit for your goals.

Coaching is designed to give you space to go deeper, get personalized guidance, and work through what feels difficult to navigate on your own.

Explore our new human coaching offering through the link in our bio to meet the coaches and learn more.

When you're responsible for a business, it can feel like there's always something else to do.

There's pressure to stay on top of everything, and setting boundaries can bring up guilt or even shame, especially if you've spent years being taught that productivity comes first.

But you don't have to earn rest by doing everything on your list.

You can care deeply about your work and still give yourself permission to step away.

You deserve to rest. Full stop. What do you think?

Relaxation doesn't have to mean taking a vacation, doing a full self-care routine, or setting aside hours you don't have.

Sometimes it's a warm drink, daydreaming for a few minutes, watching the rain, or noticing the squirrels outside your window.

It doesn't have to look like anyone else's version of rest to count.

What are the little things that help you slow down?

You can know how important rest is and still feel guilty for taking it.

You can help others work through these patterns and still catch yourself people-pleasing, chasing perfection, or feeling like you haven't done enough to deserve a break.

Changing those patterns takes time. And sometimes, we need someone to remind us that we're allowed to rest, too.

That's why community matters. We don't have to figure everything out alone, and we don't have to get it right every time.

Rest isn't just about getting more sleep.

Sometimes you need physical rest. Sometimes your mind needs a break, your senses need less stimulation, or you need space to reconnect with other people or yourself.

And what feels restorative to you might look completely different from what someone else needs.

Instead of asking yourself whether you're resting enough, try asking: what kind of rest am I actually missing?

Sometimes what hurts is not only what you experienced, but having someone tell you that your experience wasn't real or wasn't serious.

Vanessa Blackstone shares a moment when her family described her experience with hives as being “dramatic,” and how different it felt when her therapist simply validated that what happened to her was not okay.

Validation does not mean blaming someone for your symptoms or deciding you need to cut them out of your life.

Sometimes it means having someone acknowledge: that was really hard, and it makes sense that it affected you.

Your brain is constantly making predictions about what is happening around you.

Vanessa Blackstone gives a surprisingly relatable example: when the washing machine makes the floor shake, her brain briefly registers it as an earthquake before she realizes what is actually happening.

That quick shift is an everyday example of predictive coding: the brain uses what it already knows, expects, and has learned to help interpret incoming information.

In the context of persistent symptoms, these same predictive processes can be part of how the brain interprets sensations.

Pelvic symptoms are often divided into separate boxes: muscles, organs, nerves, stress, or pain processing.

But for some people, more than one part of that picture may matter.

Pelvic-floor care can be an important part of evaluation and treatment, while brain-body approaches may also be useful when pain, tension, fear, and protective responses are reinforcing one another.

That does not mean the symptoms are psychological. And it is not a reason to skip medical evaluation.

It is a reason to stay curious, preserve medical humility, and avoid forcing a complex experience into one category.

Save this for a broader clinical conversation, and learn more about Nervana for providers at trynervana.com/providers.

Recognizing that a situation affected you does not always mean you need to leave it.

Sometimes the people or circumstances involved are still part of your life. They might be family. They might live with you. You may not have the ability, or even the desire, to walk away.

Vanessa Blackstone talks with our founder Nora about why validating what happened to you can matter even when changing the situation isn't possible.

You can acknowledge that something was difficult. You can feel sadness or compassion for what you experienced. And you can work with what is happening in your life without turning that understanding into a demand to take immediate action.

What if different approaches to chronic symptoms are not as different as they seem?

In this conversation, Vanessa Blackstone explains how approaches like Pain Reprocessing Therapy, emotional awareness, CBT, and mindfulness can overlap in the way they help people understand and respond to what their brain and nervous system are doing.

Different tools. Different language. Different starting points.

But there can be common ground in helping people recognize learned patterns, reduce threat, and build a greater sense of safety.

Vanessa Blackstone, MSW, ACSW, is the Founder and Executive Director of Pain Psychology Centre UK and co-author of The Pain Reprocessing Therapy Workbook.
