The Reading Room is back! After a year of moving - thanks to @nun.bcn @firestationartistsstudios @par.residence/@espaciolapileta @afterschool.dept @nationalsculpturefactory/@guesthouse_collective - the Reading Room returns to Tangent Projects where it all began 5 years ago ♥️

An ongoing collaborative project, curated by Tsering Frykman-Glen @tseringfg, the Reading Room brings together creatives and audiences to be part of a mutual, collective experience. For this 5 year anniversary there will be 3 reading events over 3 weeks ✨️
•
Week 1 - Guillermo Mena, Friday September 18th from 19h. @guille__mena is a visual artist from Córdoba, Argentina, working across visual arts, animation and film. His practice explores how images, stories and codes are transmitted and ultimately transformed. This will be Guillermo's third Reading Room with Tsering, following collaborations in Buenos Aires and Cork earlier this year. We are excited to welcome him to Tangent Projects for this edition.

Week 2 - With Ana Vala, Friday September 25th from 19h. @ana_._vala is a Portuguese artist and curator whose practice spans visual arts, moving image, design and research. Drawing on anthropology and archaeology, her work explores everyday spaces, utilitarian objects and the relationships and meanings that emerge between them. A former Cotangent resident and Reading Room artist (2023), we are excited to welcome Ana back for another reading.

Week 3 - With Carla Angili, Friday October 2nd from 19h. @chefstarla is a multidisciplinary designer working with performance art, video projection, and speculative gastronomy. Raised in the USA by Mexican immigrant parents, Carla earned her Bachelor's at California College of the Arts in San Francisco before completing her Master's at BAU Design College of Barcelona. Through a blend of speculative narrative, sensory installations, and pop-up culinary environments, her practice explores personal identity and memory to question our perception of everyday reality. Carla was a studio artist at Tangent Projects in 2025, we look forward to her rejoining us for this event!

Este es un pequeño homenaje al año compartido a través del bordado de "Cuerpos en movimiento". La lista de agradecimientos es interminable, por lo que este video busca capturar esos momentos compartidos. ¡Gracias por participar y esperamos tener muchos más encuentros!

Cuerpos en movimiento es una colaboración textil relacional específica para el lugar, creada para
Confluence / Reading Room, una plataforma curatorial híbrida que explora espacios de transición y lectura colectiva.
Construida completamente con retazos de tela reciclada teñidos naturalmente con extractos de hueso de aguacate, la pieza funciona como un catalizador activo y un soporte espacial para encuentros públicos.

Cuerpos en movimiento establece una restricción temática: se invita a los participantes a bordar motivos que aborden exclusivamente el agua como un recurso político vulnerable y un vector de desplazamiento. Al fusionar la lectura oral, el trabajo manual colectivo y el teñido ecológico, la obra funciona como un archivo vivo que materializa físicamente discursos compartidos sobre la fluidez, el movimiento corporal y la precariedad ambiental.

This is a small tribute to the year shared by embroidering "Bodies in motion". The list of gratitudes is endless, so this video seeks to capture those shared moments. Thank you for participating and we hope to have many more meetings!

Bodies in Motion is a site-specific relational textile collaboration for
Confluence / Reading Room, a hybrid curatorial platform exploring transitional spaces and collective reading.
Constructed entirely from recycled fabric scraps naturally dyed with avocado pit extractions, the piece serves as an active catalyst and spatial support for public gatherings.
Bodies in Motion establishes a thematic constraint: participants are invited to embroider motifs exclusively addressing water as a vulnerable political asset and a vector of displacement. By merging oral reading, collective manual labor, and ecological dyeing, the artwork functions as a living archive that physically materializes shared discourses on fluidity, body movement, and environmental precarity. by @tseringfg

Following an open call attracting a large number of applicants, National Sculpture Factory and The Guesthouse Residency are delighted to announce the inaugural collaborative International Curatorial Residency awardee is Tsering Frykman-Glen, who will be in residency between The Guesthouse and NSF for the month of August.

The Guesthouse is an artist-led initiative run on a voluntary basis by our artists community. Ensuring that this space remains friendly, safe and secure is a core value. Kindness, generosity and reciprocity are fundamental to maintaining a healthy and happy environment which is created by all involved with The Guesthouse, and are cornerstones of the artistic practices at play. The Guesthouse is made possible through the collective cooperation and mutual respect and support between members. Into this collaboration, NSF, a systemically significant national resource organization for the fabrication and production of Fine Art, brings its expertise and machinery, its curatorial enquiry, and space, to enable an opportunity for an individual curator to experience the thriving Cork artistic scene with its tributaries in and out from the region.

Tsering is the founding director of Tangent Projects.
She is a highly experienced curator with over 20 years of experience working in alternative and independent artspaces, projects, and galleries. British but based in Barcelona, Tsering has gained recognition as a highly-skilled curator due to her collaborations with numerous talented artists on a wide variety of exciting projects throughout her career, working with artists at all stages of their careers.
Tsering co-founded Tangent Projects in 2015, which for 3 years was an itinerant curatorial project before it became a cultural association and independent artspace in early 2019. As the founding director and curator of Tangent Projects, Tsering oversees the small project-based gallery, seven artist studios and the residency programmes. It is based in the L'Hospitalet de Llobregat area of Barcelona. by @tseringfg
