“This award means so much to me. To everyone else it might mean being recognized and noticed for things like helping, being responsible, and taking initiative. To me it means being noticed for being kind, having a good attitude and being my classmate’s own personal hype girl. It means putting your heart in everything you do, being intentional, and giving your all even on the days that are hard. Professionalism is being better than you were yesterday, it’s being willing to learn, and growing into the person you want to become, both inside and outside of the classroom.

What made me choose to start my career in the beauty industry was my job in high school. I took a class in school that involved helping the community. In this class my group and I began working with a local salon in my town to make them a website. While in this process I found out the owner was looking for an assistant. Months later I found myself starting the job as her said assistant. This job, those girls, that salon, awakened a passion inside me and showed me where I belong. I found not only have I always loved getting myself all pretty and dolled up but that I also love doing the same for others. I love making people feel like the best version of themselves. And I thank my boss and all the girls at my salon home, Studio 3:11 for giving me the push forward into what I love to do.

What I am most passionate about in the beauty industry is making people feel good. I want people to feel seen, heard, and beautiful. I want to be able to make a difference in people’s lives. I want every client to leave feeling more confident than when they walked in. I want my work to make an impact beyond the chair. My goal in my career is to not only make a difference in confidence or appearance to people, but to be a light. In the Bible it says to serve others with the gifts we have received. This is my gift, and God gave it to me for a reason. My goal is to show people the meaning of “Ecclesiastes 3:11”.

Receiving this award means a lot to me because I work hard to be professional, dependable, and willing to learn every day. It makes me proud to know that my effort and dedication are being recognized, and it motivates me to keep growing as an esthetician.

I chose esthetics because I have struggled with acne throughout my life, which made me interested in learning more about skincare and how to properly care for the skin. The more I learned, the more passionate I became about helping others feel confident in their own skin. I wanted to turn something I personally struggled with into a career where I can make a difference for other people.

The challenge was accepted in our foundations hair cutting class, as the students tried to quickly (and accurately) section their partners hair while blindfolded! 💇🏻‍♀️😂
