The age of 6. 🥹

Six is breaking my heart a little.

Six is still wanting to sleep in my bed, hold my hand, and constantly saying, “Watch this, Mom!”

Six is becoming more independent, while still looking back to make sure I’m close.

Six is big-kid conversations mixed with little-kid imagination.

Six is watching his confidence grow right in front of my eyes.

And six is falling more and more in love with who he is becoming, while I quietly miss every little version of him that came before.

Six years ago, you made me a mama. And somewhere between the endless questions, the laughter, and the adventures you somehow create out of ordinary afternoons… you started growing up.

You’re becoming your own little person. A thoughtful one. A curious one. A boy who wants to understand everything, notices everything, and feels things deeply. You have such a big heart, and watching you discover the person you are becoming is one of the greatest privileges of my life.

Six years ago, I became your mama, and that will forever be one of the greatest gifts I’ve ever been given.

I wish I could slow time down just a little. Hold onto your little hand a little longer. Keep you little just a little longer.

But instead, I’ll keep watching you grow, cheering you on through every new version of you, and loving you through every age and every stage.

3yrs…. Sometimes feels like forever ago and sometimes feels like it was just yesterday… I still remember making the worse phone call of my life…. Every word… every second… And somehow after all this time it still haunts me… I don’t think people understand how one phone call can absolutely break someone and it did for so long…. But I survived…. I survived the funeral that followed… I survived the days when it felt impossible to breathe, the nights I cried myself to sleep, and the silence that came after everyone went back to their lives. But the version of me that existed before you were gone didn’t survive. She disappeared somewhere between shock, heartbreak, and acceptance. A part of me died that day too…. But I still smile. I still laugh. I still show up for the people I love. Still not in the same way… Grief didn’t kill me even when it felt like it might. It just changed me forever. Some losses don’t break you. They remake you into someone you never asked to become and everyday I learn how to carry both the pain of missing you and the privilege of loving you. I love the version of me and my son nobody else sees. The relationship between a niece and an aunt is unmatched! Being your aunt means watching someone else’s child become one of your favorite people and feeling ridiculously proud watching you become your own person. To everyone else he’s just a little boy. And I’m just his Mom… But I remember the day I found out I was pregnant…. In such a short period of time we have become such great friends..
