“Madison South”
- I think I knew what Madison South was as a neighborhood before I moved to it in 2024. I certainly had driven through it but it felt more like an arrangement of homes bisected by 82nd, i205, and i84. With the exception of flare perched on Rocky Butte it was a normal place to settle, start a family and otherwise wander. 82nd draws the eye but there is a pull beyond neon debauchery to be found within this unique pocket of Portland, OR.

Woodblock x Cyanotype | 28” x 20”

The block printing is a triptych Western Hemlock, picked up along a forest road near Saddle Mountain and took ~8 hours to carve and print. The Cyanotype paper, custom prepared consists of plants seen along the trail at Saddle Mountain that are growing in my yard. Sword fern, Lady fern, deer fern, Western red cedar, snowberry, mahonia, thimbleberry, ocean spray, and pearly everlasting.

I try to “climb” a mountain each year, this one wasn’t a challenging ascent but a fun collage, will frame, definitely not ai art. by @ttttarantula
