This week, a handful of our award-winning faculty traveled to Las Vegas, NV, and presented their research at the 2026 AFS & CFP Board Connections Conference.

Chia-Li Chien, PhD, CFP®, PMP®, CPBC, along with other authors, presented their article, “A Probability-Based Framework for Life Insurance Evaluation.” This case study introduces the Insurance Portfolio Risk Optimization framework, which helps advisors evaluate the sustainability of life insurance under real-world uncertainty.

Sonya Lutter, Ph.D., CFP®, LMFT, presented her new insights from the Financial Planning Longitudinal Study. The study is now in its third year, and the data collected continue to support positive client outcomes when using a CFP®. Her presentation explored financial wellness scores over time and how engagement depth influences financial wellness.

Donald Lacombe, Ph.D. presented his and Dr. Sarah Asebedo, CFP® research on the value of human financial advice in an era of generative AI. Their research suggests that the future of financial advice will be defined not by technology alone, but by the strength of advisor-client relationships.

Congratulations to all of our presenters! We are beyond proud of their research and how they continue to shape academia and the profession in an ever-changing world.

What a night! We are honored to celebrate our award recipients from the 2026 FPA DALLAS/FORT WORTH Honors Awards. 🥳

Dorothy Durband, Ph.D., AFC® received the Chairman’s Award, which recognizes an individual who exemplifies service, innovation, lasting impact, and leadership in the financial planning profession.

Dr. Jared Pickens, CFP® received the Honors Award, which is a prestigious accolade that acknowledges one’s commitment to integrity, excellence, professionalism, and leadership to the financial planning community.

Madison J. Wallace, CFP® received the Young Gun Awards, which commemorates the outstanding achievements of an emerging financial planner who is shaping the future of the industry.

We are also happy to celebrate that the Texas Tech University School of Financial Planning was awarded the 2026 FPA DFW Corporate Partner of the Year!

As a school, this is what we are all about. We are proud to have incredible leaders representing our beloved Texas Tech community in this industry. Let’s keep up the impressive work!

Day 4 of FPA Camp was filled with exciting opportunities and more hands-on learning! 💼✨

Our campers had the incredible opportunity to meet Tim Dodd, Dean of the TTU College of Health & Human Sciences. Getting to hear from and connect with Dean Dodd was such a meaningful experience, and we are so grateful he took the time to encourage and support our campers as they continue exploring the world of financial planning.

Throughout the day, campers also continued working on their team projects, putting their creativity, collaboration, and financial knowledge into action. To make the day even more memorable, they got to visit Jones AT&T Stadium and experience a little extra Texas Tech spirit! 🏟️❤️
