Here’s a look at the Lower East Side Puerto Rican Day Parade & Festival from last week ❤️🇵🇷🗽 this was the EMBODIMENT of community. The smaller, more intimate parade and festival allows EVERYONE to CONNECT. Assembly members, performers, LES Icons, @adriennebailon all in the same space! You have the opportunity to represent in YOUR community for YOUR culture, or watch from the street without a barricade in the way. You see your neighbors and others you haven’t seen in years. I marched with my mom and @golesnyc ✊🏼 to say that Puerto Rico is not for sale and neither is the LES. NY really is it’s own vibe. @thanks.esa took this with expired film and there’s no filter and I had to use it. My great-grandmother came to the Lower East Side from Puerto Rico in the 1950's. I'm not sure exactly what Puerto Ricans thought NY would be at the time, but I just hope I've accomplished everything that she hoped her family would when she brought them. taken in Lower East Side by @tuanitas
