"(Never (not)) burned out" 2021
2 coloured lithograph + handpainted gold acrylic details, 61x51cm, 210gr Zerkall Litho VI acid free paper. Edition of 10 prints, numbered and signed.
Handmade at @meltingpaperstudio , Mechelen.
Part of the @mechelenmuurt
Expo.

"(Never(not)) burned out" is about the interaction between passion and the immense pressure that comes with it. The face is filled with water and makes it look like the character is drowning. But despite everything, the surface of the water is on fire. Bubbles filled with flames (passion) keep coming from within and do not seem to get extinguished. Yet the water keeps the passion small. Despite a burnout, I felt I couldn't stop creating. It's all about finding the balance. And exactly that is so hard to find. taken in Mechelen/ België by @tuch.be

I painted a quick second piece for the @da.wizart jam in Bruges and liked this one more. Thanks for the invite! Great organization, good people and chill vibes.

On view @tresexpo Leuven until this Sunday!

Salim and I were brought together for the Tres project. After painting several times, we decided to create self-portraits that conveyed our experience together. Salim learned a lot on a technical level, but it was also a learning experience for me: I recognized and re-discovered elements I had forgotten about after painting for the last 13 years (as long as he's been alive!).

I saw his amazement while creating and how proud he was afterwards. Since art is my job, creating has become a routine. It's fun to find that magic spark again.
But with the wonder also comes the stress; it's no secret that this job can be stressful. While a 13-year-old might stress about being on time for a meeting or not messing up a piece, a 31-year-old feels the financial stress as a freelance artist or feels imposter syndrome creeping up. All we can do is keep swimming and try not to drown in this vast ocean of thoughts.

Curating @mechelenmuurt with @gijsvanhee for @stadmechelen has been an huge learning experience. After working more than a year behind the scenes, I was able to do more ‘hands on’ things over the summer. Besides preparing walls and taking care of the logistics, I was able to assist @sozyone & @klaasvanderlinden with their murals, contributed with a wall myself and even printed a print with @studiorots (more on that soon). I’m proud to see how the murals turned out and how they all are connected to their location. Huge shoutout to @gijsvanhee @bisserbisser @eltipographic @iota.io @klaasvanderlinden @sozyone . But also to the @voordeannevande @wauwhaus @studiorots @stephanie_interiorarchitect , the volunteers and locals. Last but not least @sam__cornette for the amazing 📸

The Muses for Muizen
My part for @mechelenmuurt

I stumbled upon a legend that mentioned a little chapel in Muizen, devoted to the 9 Muses, and used this as inspiration. They have been depicted numerous times throughout history, so I felt the urge to give my twist to them.
