MD student Jackie Jiang, M29, recently presented her poster, AI-Enabled Mapping of Supplement-Drug Interactions in Oncology: A Pilot Framework in Neuro-Oncology, at the 2026 International Conference of the Society for Integrative Oncology.

With mentorship from Soma Sengupta, MD, PhD, Chair and Professor of Neurology, Jackie is exploring how AI can help uncover potential interactions between cancer therapies and dietary supplements, giving clinicians and patients access to clearer, evidence-based information that supports safer and more personalized care.

On September 25, former U.S. Surgeon General and New York Times bestselling author Vivek Murthy joined Dean Helen Boucher for a Solomont Speaker Series conversation on loneliness and social connection as critical public health issues. The discussion highlighted themes from Dr. Murthy’s book Together: The Healing Power of Human Connection in a Sometimes Lonely World, which was selected as this year’s Common Book for incoming medical students through a partnership with Tisch College. The event invited students, faculty, and staff to consider the role of connection, community, and belonging in health and medicine.

This past July, graduate students from Tufts University School of Medicine Public Health programs joined Program Director and Associate Professor Kim Dong in Talloires, France, for Global Nutrition in Action—an accelerated, two-week experiential course designed to examine planetary health, climate change, and global food systems through a public health lens.

Part of Tufts’ Ribbons of Impact initiative to expand immersive learning, the trip gave Master of Public Health (MPH) students hands-on field experience at the intersection of local culture and global health policy.

Real public health solutions happen when we step outside the classroom and understand how global policy meets everyday community life.

Some career journeys are carefully planned. Others begin with a simple realization. For Kendra Gagnon, PhD, PT, that realization came while working as a pediatric physical therapist. While helping children and families, she discovered that the part of her job she loved most was teaching, coaching, and helping others grow. When she later mentored her first physical therapy student, she found a new calling: education.

Today, as Director of the Tufts Doctor of Physical Therapy Program in Boston, Gagnon is helping shape the next generation of physical therapists. In our latest faculty spotlight, she reflects on her unexpected path to academia, the leadership philosophy she calls "high standards, high support," and her vision for creating a learning environment where students are challenged, supported, and inspired to reach their potential.

She also shares her perspective on emerging innovations in physical therapy education, from hybrid learning to competency-based education and the opportunities AI may bring to healthcare training.

Most importantly, her message is one of hope, connection, and belief in the future.
