On Tuesday, our Food for Thought Student Pantry hosted this semester's second Fresh Market event, an opportunity for WSPH students to supplement their pantry with fresh vegetables and fruit, enhance their knowledge of incorporating and preparing healthy foods in the meals they cook, and connect with various resources at Tulane that support students' overall wellness. taken in Celia Scott Weatherhead School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine by @tulane_sphtm

A big congratulations to members from the Dean's Student Advisory Council who have been selected to serve on two of the functional subcommittees for the Charity redevelopment project! Their participation will ensure the project receives the proper feedback needed to help optimize the facility for WSPH needs.

Congrats Lily Cooper and Arvan Ahuja (Classrooms Subcommittee) and Matthew Moldthan and Roha Abbas (Student Support Spaces Subcommittee) ... and thank you! by @tulane_sphtm

Breast Cancer Awareness Month usually centers on screening and treatment. This month, we're also looking at recovery and what it takes to access it.

A breast prosthesis isn't a permanent decision. Many women use one temporarily while deciding on reconstruction surgery, and some stick with it long term instead. Talking it through with a care team, or even a support group of people who've been through it, can help make the choice feel less overwhelming.

Swipe through to see how far some women in Louisiana have to go for care.

We’re looking for eligible participants who are at least 18 years old, live in the greater New Orleans area, and eat out at least once per week to join us for a research workshop about eating at restaurants! Here’s what to expect:

Participate in two workshops (one, two-hour in-person workshop and one, one-hour online workshop TBD), about 2-4 weeks apart and receive compensation for completing each workshop. Your feedback will help us better understand how people think about restaurant food choices. Scan the QR code or follow the link in our bio! by @tulane_sphtm

One of the major advantages to our MPH in Health Policy program is that it allows students to immerse themselves in the policy process in Washington, D.C., learning from experts in the field and networking with Tulane alumni to discuss their experiences and opportunities. Listen as 2026 graduate Junaid Nawab discusses the benefits of that practical D.C. experience! by @tulane_sphtm

Here are some fun photos from the Crescent Connection Bridge Run, a 6k held Sept. 19. We had a small team of WSPH staff participate: Team name "One Step at a Time" with Nichole Valenzuela, Erica Valenzuela, Shallene Joseph & Cristina Miller. Some of our Global Scholar students volunteered at the event, working at the water station at mile 3 at the top of the CCC bridge. Congrats to all runners, and thank you to the volunteers! taken in New Orleans, Louisiana by @tulane_sphtm

Independent restaurants make up two out of every three prepared food places in the US. Yet few public health efforts have partnered with independently owned, ethnic restaurants, even though they tend to reach communities that bigger interventions often miss.

A project built on that idea invited five Latino-owned restaurants in the Washington, DC, area to test a new offering. Over several months, they offered a healthy combo meal paired with bottled water at a discount. Melissa Fuster, PhD, a researcher in Tulane's Department of Social, Behavioral, and Population Sciences, contributed to the study, and it's a good reminder that public health doesn't only happen in a clinic. Sometimes it happens at the counter of a restaurant you already visit every week.
