Let the Weekend begin with a ROAR

|| Bajrang of Bandhavgarh ||

A close encounter with the King of Bandhavgarh, Bajrang, offered a fascinating glimpse into the true nature and behavior of wild tigers.Resting near the fencing that separates the Core Tala Zone from the Buffer Zone, he panted heavily and drooled in the intense summer heat.As vehicle after vehicle gathered to admire his powerful presence and fierce expression, Bajrang remained remarkably calm.

At one point, a couple of forest patrol guards approached on foot at a relatively close distance. Bajrang immediately made his displeasure known. Baring his impressive canines, he gave a clear warning before making a mock charge and as the guards quickly retreated and boarded nearby gypsies, Bajrang settled down once again, because his message delivered.

I am neither a photographer nor an explorer—just a humble admirer of nature. Yet, it is often the smallest moments in the wild that leave the deepest impression on me.
One such moment was watching a tigress emerge silently from the depths of the forest. She moved with confidence, pausing occasionally as if inspecting her territory. Then, without any haste, she stepped into the water and settled herself in it, seeking relief from the relentless heat of the day.There was something mesmerizing about her calm presence and the effortless way she belonged to her surroundings.

This sighting was important not because it was dramatic or rare, but because it offered a glimpse into the everyday life of one of nature’s most magnificent predators. It was a reminder that the wilderness is not only about thrilling encounters; it is also about witnessing simple, authentic moments.

“Smiling Tiger” - Tara - Khitauli- Bandhavgarh

Before Tara appeared, we watched a shy sloth bear briefly approach the water’s edge, touch the water, and then quietly retreat back into the forest. Soon afterward, Tara stepped into the scene.
Rather than entering the water immediately, she began carefully investigating the area. She sniffed the ground,the air with remarkable intensity, gathering information left behind by other animals.

For tigers, scent is an essential source of information, revealing details about territory boundaries, prey movements, potential threats, and the presence of other tigers.

During this inspection, Tara repeatedly displayed the Flehmen response—a fascinating behavior in which a tiger curls back its upper lip and inhales scents toward a specialized sensory organ in the roof of the mouth known as the Jacobson’s organ. This allows the animal to analyze chemical signals and pheromones in far greater detail.

To the delighted tourists(like us) watching from the vehicles as our driver whispered again and again “Look look the Tiger is smiling - tiger hasat raha hain” - it was a full experience.
