Today our foal Titus had his first official trim with a Farrier . He was held by Tammy in his comfortable stall where he was born . A shifney bit for the first time . This helped him chew and relax . We are so pleased to say he acted like a true Champ. No pushing ,kicking or head butting . He sees the farrier on a regular basis because his stall is near the doorway where she backs up to . He has had turnout with Whitey and Warrior .His new friends seem to have a calming affect on him. His breed is of the quiet demeanor as well (Standardbred) His dam (mom) has a tattoo so this is a sign that she raced as a trotter/pacer . He turns 7 months in just a few days . We were taught to pick up the horses hoofs and pick them clean .This is priority. We are so proud of our student who has learned to groom, tack and ride at beginners level. This person and this horse have bonded . Our trainer is elated with the connection and respect this pair have built . Over a year ago we purchased an antique carriage. Our Goal is to offer old fashioned rides around the ranch , only problem was we didn’t have a carriage horse. They say to be careful what you pray for what you wish for. On a October Day our trainer Tammy was driving in the Utica area and came across a Punkin patch. She quickly stopped her car to buy pumpkins for the top of our driveway at Tullin Ranch as she approached the family selling the pumpkins, she realized it was an Amish family and 2 Horses We’re harnessed and hooked to the tree waiting for the days events to unfold. A small conversation started and when Tammy told the gentleman she was looking for a nice horse, he offered to sell Cindy just like that. He said there’s only one problem she’s in foal. Not necessarily wanting to raise a foal as the ranch has many years of experience raising Thoroughbreds. It was a little bit of a cringe. When Tammy saw Cindy in action, giving the Mrs. a ride out on the highway with all her children in the carriage she knew she was the horse for Tullin Ranch. The gentleman said she was too slow. We thought that would be perfect. She would have a nice place here. Her foal was born on April 11. It’s a colt and we named him TITUS .Titus is growing on us every day. soon he will be independent and he will find other friends here at the ranch. His mother will have to go back to work to help support the family . can any of the moms out there identify with this?
