What do you wish you’d known before having your first child? ❤️ As editor Natalie Mikles reminds us in this month’s Editor’s Note, there is no one perfect parenting handbook - and every family eventually writes its own.

Nevertheless, the TulsaKids Baby Handbook is a valuable resource for new and expecting parents, covering topics such as:

🍼 Introducing your toddler to a new sibling
🍼 Exploring your birth options
🍼 Advances in fertility care
🍼 What to expect during your baby’s first year
…and more.

Find our 2026 Baby Handbook inside our August issue or online at TulsaKids.com/baby

Madison Leinen, a sophomore at Broken Arrow’s Early College Academy, recently published her book, “When Gods Fall,” a 450-page fantasy novel inspired by Greek mythology.

“I can partially credit my dad for getting me into Greek mythology in the first place,” she says. “This was also the last story he ever heard me talk about before he passed, which became a huge reason I wanted to finish it. In a way, completing this story felt like carrying something forward that he had been there to see the beginning of, and that made finishing it even more meaningful to me.”

Read our interview with Madison in our October issue to learn more about the writing process, her advice for other young writers and her plans for the future.

“In a child’s life, parents anticipate a familiar series of milestones. Receiving an autism diagnosis can be unexpected and overwhelming, but it does not change who a child is; rather, it begins a new chapter in their story.”

Read our October feature, “After an Autism Diagnosis: How families can find support” to learn about local and national autism resources - and to hear from a local family and professionals about how to build community and support after a child is diagnosed with autism.
