Can we talk about the kitchen island that almost wasn't?!!

When we sat down with our architect, @stresidentialdesign and started to design our kitchen, Mike and I had one disagreement. He wanted a built-in kitchen island with all the bells and whistles, built in appliances, etc. I wanted another old farm table like the one in our former (at that time current) home. Anybody remember it?? 🙋🏻‍♀️

I was so sad to leave it behind, but the new owners wanted it and it truly belonged with that kitchen and in that house.

So I reluctantly agreed to let him have his way. After all, the man doesn't ask for much. But I was secretly searching for the kitchen island that I wanted! 🤫 I figured that if I didn't find exactly what I was dreaming of when the cabinet makers started to build the island, well that would be that. And if I did find something in time, I would work my womanly charms on him. 😉

Months went by and I hadn't found anything. The cabinet drawings were headed to the cabinet makers. Wood was being cut..... still nothing. I sadly resigned myself to a fancy island full of storage and practicalities 😂 .

Then almost as soon as I had given up, I went to visit my friend Kaci to see what treasures she had brought over on her most recent container.

That's when I saw it. The skies parted and the angels wept, or at least I did! I knew this was the one!! But it was so much longer than the one we had designed. Would it work?? Had the cabinet makers already started building the other island?? And could I talk Mike into it??

Well as you can see, it all worked out and I got my dream island, again!! It's full of charm and weathered goodness and not at all practical, but it makes my heart sing! And that's what matters!

My friends over @eastendsalvage had found my hearts desire for the second time in a row!! If you are looking for a special piece for your home you can't go wrong with checking out East End!!

A little 360 of our main living space, thus far. Slow design takes time and the hunt for special pieces doesn't happen overnight, so we still have away to go, and I'm okay with that. But we have a videographer coming soon and I was forced to get things as good as they can be at this point, so I thought I'd give you a peak too.

I had my last radiation treatment this afternoon and we are headed out this evening to celebrate!! So grateful for all of your prayers and kind words!! 🤍 by @tumbleweedmanor

Happy Sunday everyone!

Earlier this summer Mike and I did an amazing hike to this beautiful church in Northern Italy!

This is the Santuario Madonna Della Corona and she is a 16th century stunner that seems to be suspended in air! #bucketlistcheck

I've been home from Italy for a month now, and I'm still reflecting on my time there. So much beauty to process!

I am three weeks into radiation treatments with two to go! And while I am so very grateful to be working on my house and having this space to rest in, it will come as no surprise that I finish treatments on the 21st and board a plane on the 22nd. 😂

Any guesses where we are headed next?
