If it feels like true rest is impossible, this one's for you.

Art therapist DeLuna set out to write about their own workaholism and ended up somewhere bigger: "I can't help but notice that I (and my clients) seem to overwork ourselves not because it is addictive, but rather because we are forced to focus on making money."

Swipe for the exercise. Try it this Sunday, ideally with someone you trust.

"For those of us that need the extra motivation and permission to rest, remember that rest is resistance." —DeLuna

Who in your life needs permission to rest? Send them this.

Full column in our bio. Narrated by Rich Palmer @rich_palmer. DeLuna hosts a monthly gathering at @earthspirit_shop in Kennewick.

Coming Out as Trans - Part 2 - #animation #trans

An animated personal narrative of a trans woman's experience growing up as she figures out her identity and deals with the struggles of gender dysphoria before finally coming out.

This animation was originally created to come out to her friends and family. This improved version is being shared now to help show those who are unfamiliar with the trans experience what it is like, so they can better understand the people impacted by measures like I-001 and I-638 in the state of Washington.

This video has been split into two parts due to Instagram's three-minute limit for Reels by @tumbleweird_wa

Your ballot is in the mail. Here are four tips to make sure it counts.

Ted Miller @millerted talked election security with Benton County Auditor Brenda Chilton back in 2020, and this is what she said:

1. Sign your ballot the way you sign your driver's license. That's likely the signature it gets compared to.

2. Add your phone number, so the auditor's office, @bentonauditor or franklincountywa, can reach you fast if there's a problem.

3. Use an official drop box. Any county's box works.

4. Check at votewa.gov @secstatewa that it was received and accepted.

Mailing it? Use a secure U.S. mailbox at least a week ahead. Our mail goes to Spokane for processing.

Oct 26: last day to register online or by mail. Nov 3: Election Day, drop boxes close at 8pm.

Send this to that forgetful person in your life! Local votes count the MOST.

Pasco took fluoride out of its water but said cost was not the reason for this decision.

Sunil Rajaraman of @my_hamlet_tv went through the Pasco City Council @city_of_pasco record. Fluoride cost the utility $70,000 to $75,000 a year for roughly 85,000 people, and the operator said the utility "can absorb a few thousand." The council heard dentists on both sides, drew 2,095 survey responses, and voted 4-2 on November 17, 2025. Fluoride was removed from the water on February 10.

The science, briefly: the CDC, the American Dental Association, and the WHO say 0.7 mg/L, Pasco's level, is safe and prevents cavities. The only possible negative findings involve roughly double that.

Who pays? Kids whose families can't get to a dentist.

What do you think? Tell us below.

Last October we asked if the Tri-Cities even wanted a symphony. You answered with a resounding YES!

Our columnist Regular Person (a symphony musician, full disclosure... the call was coming from inside the house) is back with the update. The Mid-Columbia Symphony @midcolumbiasymphony made it, thanks to donations, ticket sales, and volunteers. Its 82nd season is about what comes next.

The Great Conductor Search is on. Three finalists each conduct a concert this season! Feedback from musicians and audience members, compiled by independent statisticians, will help pick the next music director. You can vote with your ears.

Holiday concerts are back under Interim Director Adrienne Fletcher, possibly with 47 versions of "Sleigh Ride." No promises.

Going to a Maestro Showcase concert? Tell us which one.

Full column in our bio, narrated by Rich Palmer: @rich_palmer. Tickets at midcolumbiasymphony.org

"Suffering is not a prerequisite; neither is skill." — @beauasinhandsome on why you should make art no matter what.

Beau Boaro is an award-winning fiber artist and former scientist whose studio is at FrogPatch Paper & Works @frogpatchpaperandworks. The work pictured, Nothing's Peachy, is three quilted self-portraits made during their divorce. Beau took reference photos of themself crying and admits it felt a little silly, which helped.

That piece is part of In Case of Emergency: ART, a new show about what art does for us when life gets hard. It opens Thursday, October 15, at 6pm, at FrogPatch Paper & Works, 20 N Benton St in Downtown Kennewick.

Ever told someone "I could never make art"? This one's for you. (Also check out @bad_art_club_tcwa every Sunday!)

This month, Jae Melland asked the cards what will help us prepare for the reflective months of winter. Fall is for taking stock of what's in your stores, physical or emotional, and deciding what you'll be working with when things get lean.

Tell us which number you picked, and whether it landed.

Jae is a tarot, rune, and palm reader. Book a reading at seidrwhispers.com or find her at her shop, Luna Apothecary @lunaapothecaryllc. The full reading is at the link in our bio. Narrated by Charity Orrison.
