You might have heard of the Japanese cherry blossom (sakura) but did you know that China has its own five-pointed lucky flower?🌸

The plum blossom represents one of the key virtues in Chinese philosophy, perseverance! 🌸 Like water, one must find their own path through and around obstacles to reach the sea. The progression downstream, and of one’s character, and the spread of knowledge is the ultimate goal of this lesson.

🍑 Annotations:
*The phrase I use “Far East” is referring to China, Japan, and Taiwan. All three countries who hold the plum blossom in high regard, yet for different reasons! 🌸

^The sakura and plum blossom bloom in late winter-early spring. Typically between February and March, when the weather is still cold but spring is slowly crawling in.

&The Three Friends in Winter are less-so a myth and more of an art motif, or collection of symbols representing a common theme. That being, perseverance, resilience, and steadfastness. Finding its roots in Confucianism.

Xiangling’s Specialty Dish with a Twist 🌙✨
-
I did a quick value study with the food in Genshin Impact, I originally painted with only black and white and put a color map overtop. This is my signature color palette “Twilight Sepia” a mixture of warm peaches, and deep navy blue-purple.
•
Maybe you’ll see more of my twilight soon ^^ ~more art and videos uploaded regularly, cheers!

🦋 I-I’m Fluttershy… (explodes)
•
Sketch of the new My Little Pony Forever Friendship Fluttershy design, it’s definitely growing on me. I’m not even that mad at any of the redesigns, but I’m waiting for the first episode to premiere.. which I have no idea when it’s gonna but here, pony drawing, now :3
•
I’m really liking the direction my art is going right now, it’s very vibrant but soft, lower contrast and includes lots of colors. When I paint something I like to try and sneak in one hue of every color somewhere, just for fun, it adds a lot of, well color, and I think it adds a lot of personality ^^

Have you ever tried a mooncake? ...I actually don’t like them (I think they’re kinda gross)

But-! The mooncake 🥮 is the symbol of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Celebrated across Asia in correspondence with the Autumn Equinox, and has rich history dating back more than 3,000 years! Honoring the famous creation story of the moon by Yin and Yang, the later story of the Moon Goddess Chang’e with the Jade Rabbit— and today to it is honor and celebrate good food and family! 🌾🐇

** Interesting note that the Taizhu Emperor does not ‘have a name’ and the former is not his name, but is instead a title inherited from

& Yin and Yang are the central figures/ forces in Chinese philosophy and mythology. Yin is the “feminine, cold spirit” and Yang is the “masculine, hot spirit”. They are a dyad, an equal pair of two. Both forces are balanced and work in harmony in the story, and in the real-life practices still followed today. Such as in Taoism.

All that glitters✨

Another sketch of the dragon boy, I’m really enjoying these brassy colors, and leaning into my chosen palette. I think it’s really unique! Especially thanks to the very low contrast between the colors, and the minimal use of different hues anyway, that’s my intent anyway ><
•
I’m so fickle in what I want to do going forward, I really want to strengthen this style, color, and such. I really want to sink my teeth into ever green content and focus on growth. Partially for financial reasons, it would be a far far away dream for me to do art, livestream (podcast, talk show), as a good part of my income. It’s just daunting to start, a video is so much more complicated than a single 2D image.. arrrgh I’m just nervous ^^ wehhh

ANYWAY— wip of another drawing of dragon Mika. I keep forgetting I actually picked a name, I haven’t figured out a surname or anything but 话Mika is good enough for now. “Hua Mika” flower Mika. Basic asf but is a reference to the Ballad of Hua Mulan and is just pretty sounding.
I go back to painting thighs and skin tight silk clothes now

You want it? Come and get it! ⚪️🔥

I decided to redo the sketch from yesterday (last slide) the body was completely out of proportion and I wanted to revisit the face in particular. Now the concept is, in my opinion, undeniably an adult character. Plus it’s been so long since I’ve drawn a male character at all.. I think. But I have free will and I get to decide if my oc is a hot dragon man :3
I do hope this isn’t so strange of a change, I definitely feel like the face, the bow of course, are still very recognizable as me, or Tuna, or my art in general. But the olive-green I’ve picked for now is completely out of my typical zone. Still they are more muted, mature feeling, and subtle colors, which I really like at a glance.
•
I just gotta draw more and see how I feel, honestly l’m also loving the return to a split hair color. It’s how my first ever oc looked LMAOO

That little monster is back… where’d all my knives go..?
•
I am destruction, lays chip bag you open for the first time and all the chips are dust, bringer of… Springtime! Water dragon here to bless you with rain! Now 100% free of botulism and tiny pieces of glass! (There may still be some dirt and worms though, but they’re good for you :))
A carp (close enough) turned into a dragon once rolling onto land and somehow slipped past the Dragon Gate without anyone noticing. Now I am your trusty village local deity, guide through the seasons, rain, snow, hail or frogs…. I’ll be watching you ^^
•
I know this is a huge turn for Tuna, formally Mikaela (but he doesn’t come when you call either name so what are you gonna do), but I remember how much I loved playing into this archetype. Ling Ling and Ollie were two juvenile/ teen vtuber character/ personas, and they were both super sarcastic, mouthy, mischievous but harmless all the same. When put to the test however, they, and now I, as Tuna, can stand up and protect you from harm. A guide not into the after life, but a guide for your long, healthy life I hope my rain showers bring to you, water you, feed you, and lots of night crawlers! Don’t worry you are in good hands!
•
What do you guys think? Tsu vibes? A creature, a cryptid perhaps? Nah but seriously, this is the main concept I’ve been chipping away at for the past several days. In Chinese mythology and folklore dragons are held in high regard, and spit water in place of fire like Western/ European counterparts.
•
Quick facts:
The carp and the dragon gate are from a real myth, in saying that if a carp were to leap out of the water and breach the gates it would become a dragon. A metaphor for overcoming obstacles and persistence.
The moon’s creation myth is said to have come from water vapor, and the stars, like water are spread far and wide. Trickling across the sky. A metaphor for the duty to spread knowledge, and literally circulate currency. (Coins are another loaded symbol)

💚🧡Today’s concept art~!
•
I actually did the second image first, trying to weave in more Chinese historical influence, but it’s lacking in the mythology department— so I switched to something less intimidating and sketched up a more playful design of an idol costume. Lotus flowers are one of the motifs/ symbols I’m considering.
I actually absolutely love the green??? You’ll also note that the skin tones are much warmer and darker, so this looks 2x more like me in real life than the previous, literal, porcelain white designs.
I’m sorta just throwing things at the wall right now, and seeing what sticks out to me. We’ll see how it goes waaahhh
