With hundreds of AC/DC fans singing along!

That’s how musician Norbert Kainz experienced it. The Austrian had a song in the Austrian charts in 1981 and is still recognised today by some older people, who then ask him to play his songs from back then. He used to appear on television on several occasions. Among other performances, he shared the stage with Rainhard Fendrich.
These days, he supports his nephews’ rock band, ‘Gentle 5’ @gentle5band, on a few songs; they play regularly at the G5 Live Music Bar in Vienna.
Norbert Kainz has been busking on the streets since 2023. He also occasionally reworks famous rock and pop songs with humorous, Viennese lyrics. He says, “Music is my life”, even though he spent a long time in his life working in other professions.
One weekend, the underground station at the Prater was full of AC/DC fans. The band had played a concert at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium nearby, and the fans passed by the musician playing in the underground station on their way home. The crowd of hundreds sang along with Kainz, who played both his own songs and classics such as “Highway to Hell”. Undeterred by the security staff, who wanted to stop the concert by 11 pm at the latest, he played and sang with the crowd until 1 am – finishing with the Fendrich song ‘I am from Austria’. By then, even the security staff had no choice but to join in the singing.

Right in the heart of one of Athens’ busiest pedestrian zones and shopping roads, Ermou Street, I bump into these three guys one Saturday afternoon, who are playing everything from Greek folk music to rock: Tasos, Stavros and Giorgos make up the band Brocollocos! The name is derived from the greeting ‘Bro’, ‘broccoli’ and the Spanish word ‘loco’ meaning ‘crazy’ or ‘mad’, according to singer and guitarist Tasos Chrysopoulos.
And the musicians are certainly a bit "crazy"– or at least, they’re having a lot of fun. On one occasion, Tasos forgot both the melody and the lyrics to a song, and the three of them had to stop playing because they were laughing so hard.
