Welp, when it rains, it pours. After hitting a deer with the Subaru a few weeks ago, yesterday its engine failed on my way to Copper. I can only take so many major Ls, so I had to invent a W. Last night, the same day of the Subaru asplosion, I built a ski rack out of skis for the Miata and made it to Copper today out of spite. I'm not going down THAT easily. The entire project was done with a heroic $35 Makita miter saw from facebook marketplace 💪 Two pairs of dumpster cross-country skis get a new lease on life! Spring skiing in the Mazda Skiata has reached a new level.

BGB annual camping trip: 11/11
Murray brothers' phones that survived the trip: 1/3

Since my phone didn't survive, I'm shamelessly posting everybody else's wonderful photography. Shoutout to @bensjustdancin for the sick drone aerial shots of our campsite! WELCOME TO GUYOMING. taken in Medicine Bow National Forest by @turbo_tom

MY SUBARU GOT JACKED. After an insanely-long (over 2 years) and arduous journey involving a suicidal deer and a causally-subsequent blown motor, this animal is finally rebuilt, and rebuilt crazy-style. A gargantuan thank you to Jerry and Harvey at @inboostperformance for getting this masterpiece of an engine up and running!

Net result: 450 whp on E85 🤯, but with some asterisks. We're a mile above sea level 😆 Also, this dyno is known to read quite low and therefore has a data post-processing correction option to estimate what it would be on a more common Dynojet, which is apparently accurate: This monster would purportedly throw down 530 whp on a Dynojet 🤯🤯🤯. So yeah, I don't know how exactly much power it makes. It might be pushing 600 hp at the crank. There is another metric that can be used: feel. It feels like it's dummy-fast. This RCM600 turbo is unbelievable. Supposedly it's the same turbo that @richardhammond put into his STI named Martin. WE ARE SO BACK.

Leading up to that, it made 341 whp on 91 octane, but I pretty much plan on running this exclusively on E85 🌽🏎️

MY SON IS FINALLY HOME FROM THE HOSPITAL after two years in the ICU and a heart transplant! We have almost finished recovering from the suicidal deer of 2024. The Outback STI is about to be straight-silly. by @turbo_tom

THE SUBARU RUMBLES AGAIN 2 YEARS AFTER THE SUICIDAL DEER INCIDENT 🥹 This is the first startup of its crazy new engine built by @inboostperformance ! (The harsh leaky sound is just because an O2 sensor was left off for this.) Next up: break-in and tuning! Peep the @rogerclarkmotorsports RCM600 turbo hiding under there - I hope that thing rips!

TURBO UPGRADED HIS TURBO.

Christmas came a day late for me, but I finally scooped the turbo we need to rebuild my Outback! It's been 21 months since I smoked a deer with this car and then its engine asploded a month after that. After some previous difficulties with selecting a turbo, I finally sent it with a Roger Clark Motorsports RCM600 turbo which is apparently the same one that Richard Hammond put in his STI named "Martin." TIME TO REBUILD.

(old VF-52 turbo for size comparison)
