➡️ The suffix -kâr is not a regular productive Turkish suffix. It is an element of Persian origin. Roughly speaking, -kâr means “a person who does something,” “someone inclined to something,” or “someone characterized by something.”

isyan — rebellion, revolt
isyankâr — rebellious, defiant, insubordinate
→ literally: “someone who rebels”

There are many Turkish words containing -kâr:
fedakâr — self-sacrificing, devoted
feda — sacrifice

cefakâr — long-suffering, someone who patiently endures hardship
cefa — suffering, hardship

vefakâr — loyal, faithful, devoted
vefa — loyalty, faithfulness

günahkâr — sinner; sinful
günah — sin

hilekâr — trickster, deceiver; deceitful
hile — trickery, deception

sanatkâr — artist, craftsman, artisan
sanat — art, craft

hizmetkâr — servant, attendant
hizmet — service

sahtekâr — fraudster, impostor, deceiver
sahte — fake, false

riyakâr — hypocrite; hypocritical
riya — hypocrisy, insincerity

itaatkâr — obedient, submissive
itaat — obedience

kanaatkâr — content with little, undemanding, easily satisfied
kanaat — contentment, satisfaction with what one has

tamahkâr — greedy, avaricious
tamah — greed, avarice

An important point
You should not always understand -kâr as equivalent to an English suffix such as -er or -ist. Depending on the word, it can form either a noun or an adjective:

günah → günahkâr
sin → sinner / sinful

isyan → isyankâr
rebellion → rebel / rebellious

itaat → itaatkâr
obedience → obedient / submissive
