So @ripe__film the short was always a vehicle for @ripe__film the feature. A pipe dream, one might say. The short has been received warmly which continues to stun us. But yesterday marked a surreal moment as the feature was recognized too. More specifically, our feature screenplay made @theblcklst 2024 which our lovely team taught us is “a pretty big deal!!!” This is the first feature we’ve written and I think our teen selves would be TRIPPIN over this. Thank you to our management team @artistsfirstinc @aquinco1 @matt_shepley @haleyyjones who fought for this opportunity. by @tusk.zip

Uh. We WON best narrative short at @tribeca for @ripe__film…💀🍾🤯🧜‍♀️🤡  We didn’t consider the possibility of an award. When we got the call we were in Provincetown (where shockingly we also won, and also left before awards) We’ve gotten a lot of comments about how lush & vibrant ripe is. I think to people who’ve seen it, the vibrancy seems obvious… but it’s worth acknowledging that it wasn’t. All of us have years of programming that queer stories are tonally, uh, intense. Kerry and I specifically also have lived experience that queerness is met with toleration not celebration, hiding is easy, and coming out fucking sucks and takes forever. So we had to fight ourselves to rewrite the ending we WISH we had, the film we could have used as teens. The validation of winning with a simple story of two girls working to admit their spark is helping us wiggle forward and grow up. Thank you Tribeca.  All that said…we MISSED THE CEREMONY lol but luckily our resident local and EP @kelleyohara was there to save the day. As Kelley said, team is everything. (She knows— 2-time World Cup winner!!) Her authenticity and excitement for ripe have helped carry us in our hardest / biggest moments- thank you Kelley, and every teammate… Our angel day 1 boss producer @freakbrat showed the fuck up for this with a heart & mind so big you can’t imagine, as well as the incredibly passionate funny talented trio in Barcelona at @japonicafilms plus our EP @juxta_luke who heard this pitch and immediately dedicated support, and thoughtful Spain buddy EP @kameryn.kyle - and DP @whoispablogallego come on, have y’all SEEN the light in this thing?!! And of course @485_rits and @rainalandolfi who literally jumped off cliffs carrying our weight. See the rest of our brilliant team: https://vimeo.com/860987750  One last thing. I always hear “life imitates art” and am like whatever. But days after shooting the scene where Sophie breaks Gloria’s arm, I fell and broke MY arm. 👋 My 2nd remix for @itskarinann will be out in a while but this is the video for the original song, and when we first met. 2023 was HARD. not gonna lie. but we are proud of the work we did, closer to the core than ever. oddly enough we directed a lot of pushing, shoving, doubting, stabbing & spinning on screen which embodies how the year felt. but we also shot a lot of running, jumping, splashing, dancing & kissing, which is also how we felt. we’d like to say we hope 2024 is a better year but we know that’s a privileged view and not possible for a lot of people living through immense suffering and violence. call your reps, hold onto your values, and if you want bonus points pay creatives livable wages! ok but really, thank you to people who see us for who we have yet to be. you know who you are. over n out 😀🧚‍♀️🧜‍♀️🎊❗️ by @tusk.zip
