Welcome to Queen of Angels 🙏

You may notice a few unexpected names in our roll call… 👀 While our ensemble characters don’t have official names in the script, each actor has given their character a name of their own. These names help us build fuller, more personal stories for the people we bring to life on stage—and for many of our actors, they are a small way of honouring and remembering someone special to them. 💜

So, when you read these names in our roll call, know that behind each one is a little piece of someone’s heart, imagination, and story.

These names are solely part of our character-building process and have no affiliation with the official production.

Now… let’s see who’s in the Church.

Last month, we lost one of our brightest stars.

Cecilia Smith was a pillar of the TUTS Community and Vancouver Musical Theatre Community. Together with her husband, Roger Smith, and a group of passionate local artists, they brought Theatre Under the Stars back to life in 1969, after a 5 year hiatus. They rebuilt the company on the model of volunteers and two shows in repertory, which continues to be the tradition today.

Cecilia performed on the Malkin Bowl stage many times, most notably as Eliza Doolittle in MY FAIR LADY. Her last performance was in 2017 in our production of MARY POPPINS, as the 'Bird Woman'. At the age of 84, she could still belt out a song and bring audiences to their knees.

Always advocates for artists and community, Cecilia and Roger last visited TUTS to see a show in 2022 for our beloved Alumni Night.

Our General Manager had the opportunity to visit Cecilia at the end of August. She was sharp and reminisced about the wonderful people she had worked with at Theatre Under the Stars and all the fond memories.

We will miss you dearly, Cecilia. Rest well and thank you for the memories!

CECILIA SMITH: 1933 - 2026

A Celebration of Life will be held for Cecilia at the Metro Theatre (1370 Marine Drive SW) on Monday October 26th, 2026 @ 2pm. by @tutsvancouver
