Today I turn 23. Today I also release my first ever EP. Cosmic Equilibrium. Inducted into being on the mighty 24th of July, this year 2025.

Originally conceived as a mixtape set to be released in September, I can assure you that I did not wake up on the morning of July 23rd, 2025 intending to record and release music. In fact, I awoke with a sore throat and have been in a bit of a mild slump due to my persistent cold and raspier than usual voice. However, that changed after I finished making my birthday cake and started to sing to myself from the joy and slight sugar rush I was feeling. The rush of excitement from hitting effortless high notes coupled with the high from tasty dark chocolate put me in the prime creative state to finish writing and recording the last song on this EP, Otherworldly.

Most of these songs (with the exception of Forevermore) were started before I moved to New York. They were started and abandoned, but fortunately rediscovered, reinvented, and released into the world for your ears. Recording has also been an effort, as I’ve been reminding myself to save the belting and runs for my live performances ;) Soon.

I truly felt in my spirit that I needed to release these songs today. All I felt when mixing and fine-tuning each of these songs was grateful to be doing my favorite thing in the world. (All this anguish because I lost my voice! 😭)

Cosmic Equilibrium was a term I adopted in college to provide me comfort when I was confronting stress and overwhelming difficulty in my life. It was a reminder that the bad times have to be evened out by the good times. Because in my mind, all energy has to balance out somehow. And that when things were good, be prepared for challenges that will come to humble you.

Now I approach the term differently. I don’t inherently believe that there is something bad creeping up behind every blessing. Instead, I believe this Equilibrium conveys that you get what you give. And that’s the energy that balances out. It reminds me to give as much as I can, whenever I can. Giving is the only way you can truly receive.

As I embark on 23, I’m excited for what this year holds. 22 was tremendous, so I can’t wait. taken in New York, New York by @tuyajoa

Thinking lots about my grandma today. They say death should serve as a wakeup call to the living, and last year I had a massive one without registering it. I used to get so flustered when she asked me to sing for her because I lacked the courage to sing for virtually anyone. If I did concede, she’d reveal her rare smile. My eyes water at the thought of her smiling. While she’s not in this world anymore, I know her spirit can hear me and I’m always singing for her. I’m singing as loudly and as powerfully as I can for her to hear me. I now have the courage to be heard.

Last year, I regretted that I didn’t sing for her more when she was alive. This regret fostered the action to reevaluate my priorities and take the leap to finish my EP. I even left my job at the time, asserting that I would only do music, despite having no real infrastructure to make that happen. As I reflect on that time, I applaud the bold actions I took, even if at times compensatory. Since then, I’ve found myself truly stepping into the role of Artist and CEO, working behind the scenes to establish my business. I’ve learned so much along the way, often humbled every time life presents me with a lesson it pounds into my consciousness. I’m now doing everything in my power to do music full time, and every passing day brings that inevitable reality closer. Keep live music alive, forever and always

Thank you @todayshow and @citi for giving my dear friends @lit.z @rowmufasa and I the chance to see the divine @ayrastarr perform live this morning. As an artist soon to make my performance debut, it was electrifying for me to see the operational work that went into executing the show, namely the choreography rehearsal to accommodate for the unique stage, as well as the sound check to ensure the audience would be hearing the music at the best quality possible. I can already see myself meticulously working with my sound crew to EQ any mic feedback or ensure that my backing track isn’t obscenely loud. I admired the commanding presence Ayra had when calling out the corrections that needed to be made, and I strive to put that same attention to detail into my live shows. Thank you again for giving me this master class into what it takes to execute this seemingly elaborate production that was essentially muscle memory to the attentive and warm crew. It was tremendous to be part of this American pop culture institution.

TV DEBUT‼️

@ayrastarr on the digiiii singing Hot Body i.e. thee whine dat whaist anthem. Her last performance was my favorite tho. It was my first time hearing that song, but her vocals were so earnest and powerful. It relayed her rejection of negativity and external weights, as she concentrates on her grind and career success—words that strike deeply and reached me to my core. It was all goosebumps and teary eyes :’) (song was Rush)

I’ve been 24 for a week now.

I’m so thankful to have a great circle around me, thankful to have family in my corner, thankful to have mentors who will answer even my most obscure questions, and thankful to be living in the city I’ve longed to be in for as long as I can remember. Every time I hit that super high note or find that perfect kick sound or get a rhyme scheme just so or (arguably best of all) fiiiiinally get the mix right—I just know I’m doing exactly what I’m supposed to be doing, exactly where I’m doing it, exactly at that time. And my most favorite thing of all is when I get to know other people who are also so enthralled and compelled by their craft/vocation/calling. I’m so thankful that 23 led me to so many passionate people because you all show me it’s possible to give yourself the permission to live your life doing the thing you love the most. Thank you. I can’t wait to see what 24 has in store. by @tuyajoa

They don’t know I got this Mac 2nd gen for free from fb mp to make music so I carried it on my back from prospect park to my apt like an indentured bricklayer, then subsequently gathered the compatible mouse and keyboard for it to function, then after trying to download the appropriate macOS software using terminal, I went into the internet archives to download the original El Capitan operating system from 2015 and compress it onto a flash drive that I wiped to get the computer to work. After all that I found out it can’t screen mirror my MacBook Pro bc it’s too old so now I just use it to watch YouTube videos and take selfies. Worth it 😚 by @tuyajoa
