Hip Hop Hooray! šŸŽ‰

Lisa’s hip replacement surgery was a success! ā¤ļø The left hip is officially done, she’s recovering well, and that’s the best news I could ask for.

So while she’s getting some well-earned rest, I’m back at the hotel raising a glass (and enjoying some popcorn šŸæ) before the Norway vs. England match.

Go Norge! šŸ‡³šŸ‡“

One successful surgery down, one very grateful husband, and hopefully one Norwegian victory to cap off the day. šŸøšŸ™Œ taken in Frenchy Toronto by @tvpappy

Football has a funny way of teaching you lessons.

Yesterday wasn’t the result the @QuinteSkyhawks wanted against Sudbury, a team that’s been our measuring stick (and our biggest rival) for the past four years.

But watching Niko score two touchdowns to put the team ahead - and seeing the emotion afterward - was something special.

My favourite moment almost nobody noticed came on the first touchdown.

Niko had three defenders hanging off him at about the five-yard line. One of Sudbury’s players, #15, looked at Niko and basically said, ā€œEff no!ā€ thinking there was no way Niko was getting through.

A second later… Niko powered into the end zone anyway.

#15 turned back to Aaron like, ā€œHow did he do that?ā€

Aaron just smiled. He knows what’s up.

Sudbury battled back late and earned the win. Credit where it’s due.

But our season isn’t over.

The Skyhawks finish atop the B Tier, which means there’s still football to play, and still a championship to chase.

One game doesn’t define a team.

How you respond to it does.

Well… he did it. šŸ˜šŸŽ“

Niko managed to graduate with Honour Roll, picked up a Gold Community Service Award, and is heading into the next chapter.

Now… let’s be honest.

A lot of the credit goes to his mom, who spent the last few years making sure assignments got handed in, deadlines got met, and that ā€œI’ll do it laterā€ didn’t become a lifestyle. šŸ˜‚

We’re incredibly proud of the young man you’ve become. You’ve worked hard, grown a ton, and earned every bit of this (even if you needed a little… enthusiastic encouragement along the way).

Congrats, buddy. We love you, we’re proud of you, and we can’t wait to see what you do next.

Over 15 years as an educator. A career path I never thought I would ramble down. What a journey. I discovered a part of me I was not aware of. I was apprehensive at first, but I grew to love it. I mean, truly, this has been the most rewarding time in my professional life.

The main reason, and the whole purpose of what we do as educators, is the students. If only those in control of decision making looked at this endeavour the same way we do.

Students first.

Every decision we make should answer, ā€œhow does this benefit the students?ā€ Unfortunately that is far from the truth.

Dasha, thank you for the incredibly original and beautiful gift and your kind words. This was an incredible way to close this chapter in my life.

I have been touched by the multitude of kind words and sentiments from our students at such a transitional time in my career. Students getting tattoos based on what I’ve taught them… damn, that’s something that will live on beyond my lifetime. How cool is that? I recently received messages from a grad who is currently in Fiji working as a camera operator for Survivor. I’m having regular meetings with another who recently moved to LA and is thriving. Another has been working on award winning documentaries and recently joined another award winning production company. So many great stories of grads that remain in touch. Proud is an understatement. I’m proud of you all.

I’m also proud of myself.

I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished in the classroom. I’m proud of the fact that my efforts have resulted in talented people using their skills to make a name for themselves. I’m proud to have been a part of their journey.

My journey is not over. I plan to continue offering my skills to help others thrive. For now, it’s time for me to ramble on as I transition to the next chapter in my professional life.

Trust the process. Remember your ā€œwhyā€

Stay authentic. Stay intentional. Stay in touch. Stay tuned. by @tvpappy
