Militaria Collector
I collect for my interest in history and to preserve history as well
Love me some silver
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Grouping to John W Heaster of 3rd BN 507th Para Infantry. John would have been present for his jump on D-Day. Most of the regiment would be scrambled and separated due to flak and weather conditions. As evident of his battle stars he may have also been president for other jumps like Varsity.

Ribbons appear to be theatre made and the CIB is sterling, also interesting is that he appears to have been apart of the 657th Tank Battalion that would be disbanded in 1944.

A bit of a unique post, thought I’d show off a little bit of my coins. Military will always be my main focus, but can’t go wrong with some nice silver and gold

It’s been a bit, thought I’d upload a recent find with a bit of a format.

James Hutton would have quite the navy career, spanning decades. On October 16th 1965 he would be forced to eject over North Vietnam where he would be captured immediately. He had only been fighting there since May of that year.

During his time he would be subjected to mental and physical torture. One article reading that they would hang him, and let him go right before he would “expire”. This and more would happen many times. He would be released in 1973, and during his stay at a navy hospital would meet his wife Eileen who was a nurse. He stayed in the navy until 1979, passing away in 2017.

Navy Jumper from Hospital Corpsman Second Class Michael R Kempel. He was awarded the Silver Star and the Purple Heart for actions in Quang Nam Province. He was apart of the 3rd battalion 5th marines. He was only 22 years old when he would be killed, and would take a whole 30 years for him to be finally recognized for his bravery, and awarded the Silver Star Medal. Give his citation a read, it is quite interesting. This is my second KIA uniform both from the Vietnam War. It’s an honor to be able to preserve it, even through it is a sombering piece.

It’s been a little bit. I recently have started collecting 90th infantry infantry division stuff. I got this uniform from @bigredonecollection.

This uniform is named to first sergeant James McBride who was a first sergeant in the 36th engineer brigade, and in the 90th infantry division. I might contact some people to see if I can find his bronze star citation. He was two campaign starts, and was overseas for 1 1/2 years being enlisted for at least 3.

All around a beautiful uniform with really neat stitching

I don’t typically collect Soviet medals, but the more I look at this the more I want to.

Here is a WW2 Order of the Red Star

He was apart of the 1368th Rifle Regiment

He would see combat on the 3rd Ukrainian Front, and the 1st Belorussian front

He was also awarded “For Battle Merit”, while in the 127th Rifle Regiment

He was a loader for the 120 mm Pm 43 Mortar

Here is his citation

Comr. NEPOMNYASHCHY, on the left bank bridgehead of Wisla, near the settlement Wola Augustowska and Stromiec, during the break through the first and second lines of enemy defense, timely carried the ammunition, thus ensuring the successful operation of the battery. On 8 February, on the Oder bridgehead, as the gun pointer was out wounded, comrade Nepomnyashchy replaced him and, with precise mortar fire, dispersed an attacking enemy group of up to 60 people, leaving 18 enemy soldiers dead on the battlefield.

I do collect a little bit of the civil war. Here is a gem type, tin type of a union soldier. At first me and, some collectors thought this could be General John Wallace, but probably not. It could also be the guy from the document I’ve provided. He may have been in the 1st Delaware Infantry Regiment.

WW2 Ike named to William P Saviers. A concentration camp liberator. He would be an MP in the 819th Military Police Company who served from 1944-1946. The 819th were attached to the 20th Corps. In there he would see extensive combat participating in the Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe campaigns. On April 4th 1945 he would be with the first Americans to liberate a concentration camp. That being Ohrdruf Concentration Camp. Ohrdruf was part of the Buchenwalds network of camps. Ohrdruf would claim thousands of live, many of those lives being taken when the Germans (SS) were retreating back, and wanting to hide how bad it truly was. These photos are part of Ohio University’s archive of the Saviers Family.

Never know what your going to find. Stopped by an antique mall today, and picked this out. It’s Charles Meyers Blue Angels Flight suit. He was a pilot for the C-130 Fat Albert between 1980-1982. The patch is missing, but it’s still a nice fine. I found a photo of him online wearing this uniform. The photo is a bit cropped out, but he is in the bottom row in the middle.

Before I go for a month. I wanted to post something that I find really interesting. WW1 letters describing Willard H Thomas first combat experience “Over The Top”.
Here is the main parts.

We were laying in the woods for several on the Château-Thierry front. On one night the orders come for the company to go up to the front, so we rolled our backs, and got ready. An after dark we started out hiking all night.

Arriving at the front at the front in the morning. After day light, we were most up to the lines, then the Germans began shelling us, as we were in observation of the Germans lines. We had to do double time to get to our own positions, which was small holes dug in the ground. Large enough to hold from one to three men, and after getting into holes. We got shelled by gas we had our masks on for about 30 minutes.

We laid in those holes that day and night with nothing, but corned beef and hardtacks to eat, but thankful to get that until the next morning. Which I took a detail and went after rations, and the Germans were shelling the path at the top of the hill most of the time. Which kept up ducking. Well I got back with the gurl an no one hurt, so we had a good feed for breakfast. Then we crawled in to our holes to lay low for the rest of the day, but about two o’clock our lieutenant came around and told us to get ready for we were going over the top at 3.

Well we got ready, and at two thirty he said all out and we down on the right about half a kilometer, and waited for the word over the top, which came at three o’clock. And went out in the wheat field. We went out with machine gun bullets falling around us like hale stones.
