Estoril done!
P18 in the main race and P21 in the superpole race. Reality is that I’m struggling a lot, more than I would like. We’re still trying a lot of different things and can’t find one good direction at the moment. Unfortunately we made a step in the wrong way for race 2 which compromised us. Add to that I made a lot of mistakes while trying different things in my riding style to try and understand the bike better. It’s a hard lesson that we will keep in mind for Jerez next week. Saturday done! We’re testing and learning every single lap and trying to find my way on this bike. I’m quite happy with what we tried today and think we found a few things to build on tomorrow. We keep working and fighting!

🔥 ROUND 11 | ESTORIL AWAITS 🇵🇹 🔥

The Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK Team is ready to return to action for Round 11 of the WorldSBK Championship at the iconic Circuito do Estoril.

With the season entering its final stages, the team arrives in Portugal determined to keep pushing and make the most of every opportunity on track. Estoril brings another demanding challenge, combining technical sections, hard braking and fast corners where precision and confidence will be key throughout the weekend.

Mattia Rato #13 and Twan Smits #85 are ready to get back on their Yamaha R1 machines and continue working alongside the team, session after session, with one clear objective: extract the maximum performance and fight for every position.

🆕📰 At Cremona Circuit Rato scores a WorldSBK point in Race 2 and finishes ahead of Smits

Under sunny skies, the Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK Team riders competed in the ten lap Superpole Race.

After a good start, Mattia Rato immediately found a strong pace, climbing through the field to finish 14th. Twan Smits was also making a strong recovery when a technical problem forced him to retire with just a few laps remaining.

Later in Race 2, Rato joined the chasing group, made several overtakes and finished 15th, securing one World Championship point. Smits continued to build confidence with his new team and motorcycle, finishing 16th just behind his teammate.

Sandro Carusi | Team Principal 🗣️ “Overall, our second home round was a positive one. Rato showed that he has reached a good level of competitiveness, finishing in the points in Race 2. Smits made excellent progress despite being unfamiliar with both the motorcycle and the track, giving us good reason to be optimistic about the final two rounds.”

@twansmits85 🗣️ “My round with the Motoxracing Team ended positively and I came very close to scoring points. I worked well with the team and gained a better understanding of how the R1 needs to be ridden. We know where we need to improve and will continue working during the next two rounds.”

In Race 2, I fought to repeat that result but had to settle for 15th, which allowed me to score one World Championship point. Thats the first WSBK raceweekend done! We laid a good base for the next weekends. I’m learning so much every single lap, it’s been very intense. Of course it’s not easy right now but we’ll keep our head down, take the positives and keep working!

We made a big step in superpole, only +0.7 from the fastest Yamaha was in the target. Unfortunately some issues on the front end and a small crash in race 1 cost us the chance to fight for a better position. We’ll keep working and try again tomorrow.
