Traditional Chinese medicine is more than a 2,500 year old medical practice.

It’s a philosophy of living: prevention, balance, and treating the body as a whole system. This is the foundation we build from. by @twelve.phases

Archive: Qing dynasty snuff bottles, 18th-19th century. When powdered tobacco arrived in China, the Qing court transformed its container into an art form.

Jade, glass, porcelain, agate. Hand-painted from the inside out with brushes thin enough to fit through the neck.

They were traded among scholars, gifted between diplomats, and collected as symbols of status and refinement. Small enough to hold in one hand. Made with extraordinary care. by @twelve.phases

A century apart.

The updo is still one of the oldest acts of feminine expression. The second slide is a Manchu noblewoman from the early 1900s wearing a Liangbatou, a structured trapezoidal headdress that signified status and ethnic identity. Hair is intricately styled over frames and adorned with silk flowers and other ornamental pins with precision.

The fashion has changed but the instinct is the same: to adorn yourself deliberately, to take the time, to make beauty a daily ritual as respect to yourself and to others. by @twelve.phases

Archive: Meiping Vase (梅瓶), Zhengtong Period (1435-1449)

A plum vase with copper red underglaze from the reign of the Zhengtong Emperor. The copper red effect was notoriously difficult to fire. Small shifts in kiln temperature would destroy the colour entirely, which made successful pieces rare and reserved for imperial use.

Production was overseen by imperial eunuchs who managed court workshops supplying objects for ritual, recreation, and decoration. The meiping form was originally designed to hold a single branch of plum blossom.

China invented porcelain. The earliest examples date to the Han dynasty, around 200 AD, and by the Ming period, workshops in Jingdezhen were producing work so technically advanced that Europe spent centuries trying to replicate it. The material, the craft, and the vessel as an art form all started here. by @twelve.phases
