It’s my Distiller-versary. Today marks one year since I started working for the only company I’m able to say “I quit” whenever any minor inconvenience occurs😂. From being covered in grain dust constantly to being in the makeup chair before going on camera, I wouldn’t have it any other way. September is always extra special because each year, my brother and I get the opportunity to return to my alma mater, the University of Arkansas, as guest lecturers.👨🏽‍🏫

Getting to teach students about the world of distilling in the very same classroom I sat in 8 years ago will forever be one of the coolest full-circle moments.

From sitting in those seats as a student to standing at the front of the room sharing what we’ve learned along the way—it’s an experience I’ll never take for granted.

Innovation can start anywhere…even in the kitchen!

Thomas Williams of Delta Dirt Distillery turned his science background into something truly unique: sweet potato vodka. Since opening in 2021, Delta Dirt has grown into a destination, drawing visitors to Helena and pushing boundaries in the spirits industry.

Now they’re expanding with new products, all rooted in a mindset of trial, error, and not being afraid to fail. Because sometimes the best ideas come from trying something different.

Today in Ghana was one of the most surreal days of my life.

I began at the river where enslaved Africans were forced to take their “last bath” before being taken from their homeland forever. I walked only a short stretch of the path they once endured for months on foot — and even that small distance was enough to feel the unimaginable weight of it.

From there, we traveled to the dungeons of Elmina. Just an hour away by car… but once, a journey of suffering measured in time, fear, and stolen freedom.

And then, in the midst of all that history and emotion, the day ended in a small village with something entirely different: community, remembrance, and honor. I took part in a naming ceremony and received my African name — Kweku Mensa.

To experience all of this during Black History Month makes it even more powerful. Grief and pride. Pain and connection. Past and present all in one day.

How blessed am I to have so many people travel halfway across the country to celebrate my 30th birthday. Reflecting on the weekend, I can’t help but tear up thinking about how lucky I am to be surrounded by such incredible people in this life—and I’m not just talking about those pictured above.

Over the last 30 years, I’ve made so many lifelong friends, and with each passing year I’m reminded just how rare that truly is. Thank you all for the birthday wishes, and thank you to everyone I’m grateful to call a friend. I love you all. 🧡 taken in Salt Lake City, Utah by @twilly3
