In red dead redemption 2 you can choose two paths. One of honor, the deer, or one of dishonor, the wolf. Their nature in the animal kingdom is that of the hunter and the hunted. But if you look to the narrative about the future closing in on Arthur, which species has a better future ahead of it? Does Arthur deserve redemption for choosing to change at the last minute? Regardless of which path you choose Arthur goes against his mentor to do the right thing, arguable for the wrong reasons but I find it rare that anyone who plays through all of his experiences don’t eventually come to the same emotional conclusion. Dutch is wrong and the ends justify the means. So the path he chooses along the way determines his souls future, not the future of the story. So which is better? To be a hunter in a world on the brink of change, only to end up killed and controlled by the new world order? Or to be the hunted allowed to thrive without intervention except for a few months of the year, to make sure you don’t thrive too much. Either way you end up controlled but in different ways.

Luckily we are humans so we don’t have to worry about these things happening to us. As an individual it’s pretty easy to feel out of control and like a deer or wolf but it’s simply not true. I think the amount of people that exist nowadays it’s easier to blend into a crowd or to feel powerless. It’s a shame to see how many people fall victim to these emotions and allow them to control who they are.
