A special thank you to all the incredible Twin Rivers coaches for the time, heart and commitment they give our students, on and off the field! And others are taking notice, too.

After Wednesday’s (Oct. 7) varsity girls flag football game between Grant Union and Kennedy, the head referee emailed Grant to recognize Coach Julian Reed, his coaching staff and the team for their exceptional sportsmanship.

With Grant leading by a wide margin, Coach Reed agreed to a running clock and gave a Kennedy student-athlete with special needs the opportunity to score a touchdown. For Grant, that moment was about more than the score. It was about compassion, kindness and making sure a student had a moment to shine.

#TRUSDProud Alert! At the Oct. 6 school board meeting, Twin Rivers Unified celebrated students who are leading, achieving, and taking important steps toward their futures.

Student Board Members were sworn in for the 2026–27 school year, bringing student voice to district leadership. The district also recognized students who earned on-the-spot college admissions and scholarships at the HBCU Recruitment Fair in September.

These are the moments that matter—giving students a voice, opening doors, and creating opportunities for their future. Twin Rivers school board members take the Oath of Office. by @twinriversusd

#AroundTR! A wonderful tradition at Miles P. Richmond Transitional School. Every school day at 9 a.m., students gather with their teacher, Mr. Forrest, for the flag-raising ceremony. For the past two years, Mr. Forrest has led the ceremony, creating a moment for students to come together, connect and start the school day with purpose. The tradition takes on an even greater sense of community on Fridays, when the entire school is invited to join the gathering.

It’s a tradition that brings students together throughout the week and gives them something special to look forward to. by @twinriversusd

WPCS Frontier teacher Suzanne Brusca found a creative way to bring reading, compassion, and a few wagging tails together with her new “Barks & Books” program. Some of her seventh and eighth grade students joined her at the Bradshaw Animal Shelter, spending time reading to dogs, handing out pupsicles and, of course, making time for a few cuddles.

The monthly program helps students build reading confidence, empathy and compassion while giving shelter dogs enrichment and positive interaction with people.

The students had a great first visit and are already looking forward to heading back in October! Two students sit with a small brown dog, with one student holding an open book and the other gently petting the dog. by @twinriversusd
