I'll say I was invested in conversation most of the time and enjoyed myself. I don't have much of a review for this set. I was very nervous about peers.

first, @chausieband (chow-see)
Incredible. I think regardless of what music genre you like, you gotta see them in person. I'm excited to see new projects by them! I'll keep recommending this local band to anyone who needs new music.

second, @solitude.band
consistent, started off strong and whipped out a cigarette. Causing the rest of the audience to pull out their's. Aura farming is crazy. taken in Provo, Utah by @twoseinet_thoughts

Next, @bagheadslc
Baghead brought in a crisp effigy fixin' on the pile of an invigorating 4 band set. I think I owe them some justice, I didn't capture as many photos as I thought I had and will have to attend another show to make up for it. The pit really went wild with their set and I recommend being in attendance anytime they play near you. They stuck through the thick of bands dropping and delivered.

@tempest.slc
Last but never least.
Off the bat, each of the bandmates are consummate in every corner. In entertaining the audience, in passion of political messages, instructing the pit or calling out the audience, and in instrument. After the concert it was drafty and empty without the lovely set all of these band members played. And that's no shade on the Boiler Room, it was clean and put together, I hope I'll go back for more performances. They are worth seeing an I hope I can attend another show! Bonus points to tempest because their drummer looks like jerma

I will be in attendance elsewhere this evening in Provo! by @twoseinet_thoughts

First time using a real camera for any event :p learning what I need to do and definitely making notes for next time.

I feel odd trying to find angles and make sure everyone gets a personal shot. I didn't notice how bad the photos were until I uploaded them to my laptop. I'll blame instagram a bit for always cutting quality.

First we had Antiperspirant
If the band has an insta tag pls lmk!!
Funny enough, I had some on me. They're new, exploring their space and soft launching the cool look. They were focused on their playing more than giving the audience attention. Forgot some of the words to songs but I've seen it all before; they'll gain a great following along the way. The smiles on stage mean more to the crowd than anything else. Points for energy coming from the drummer. It's worth taking the time out of my day, drive the 90 miles to watch others display how far they've honed their talents. A few extra points because they stepped up when there were quite a few bands dropping out!

Up second
@luck_.sick
They came in swinging with the bee movie entrance. There was a unique love for each member from the audience. They moved their attention to the crowd to themselves as a band, at some points with a healthy confidence and regrouping subtly. Their vocals didn't leave room for mistakes at the very end of it. No inhalation feedback and no skewed timing and a wide range on their death growls. taken in Ogden, Utah by @twoseinet_thoughts

I’m so sorry to onesided I didn’t know there was another set. I’ll have to see them at another gig to make up for it!
•
@__dansemacabre__ the band that initially convinced me to go and start attending concerts again. I think they put out a good energy for their first time! Definitely more successful than other first gigs and I hope they continue to get that kind of support. I’d love to see where they go. Congrats on your debut!
•
@whereyoulay.emo held on strong and got more people pushing and tumbling in the pit. Their vocals uniquely positioned among these others. The crowd was at their peak and completely involved whether it was bobbing along, clapping, or shoving. The band members are charismatic and charming. They got my attention before playing with their banter and encouragement to whoever played before. Definitely check them out!!
•
BTW: If you see me at a show, I have extra water bottles and like every emergency item in my car in case you need anything! I want everyone to stay safe out there! Never be shy to ask :) I even have hair spray and liquid IV powder. by @twoseinet_thoughts

I wish I brought an actual fucking camera instead of looking like a creep with my phone. Next time 😔
I was surprised, in a few ways. The scene girls dressed to the nines, the dedication of the several pit members giving it their all for more than 2 hours, and the fact I saw all ages around. It’s a plus if you’re above 5’4 like me, you’ll get a view from some angle. As it seems, many of these bands are playing their first sets ever or are less than a few years old.
•
@breakfastfornoneband performed first! Midwest Emo has a special place in my heart and I can say it’s my first time seeing anyone play that genre live! They started strong and ended stronger with 4 originals (I think). Of the bands, I found they made less visible mistakes and played quite confidently without needing to look at each other. This doesn’t make any one band better than another though! I’m looking forward to more from this band, whether it’s a Spotify release or live show.
•
@abovenoon.band they quickly gathered themselves and sound checked. They set the mood for the pit and the crowd got a comfortable idea as to what they were getting themselves into. The two vocalists flawlessly executed their death growls. I was left impressed and very captured by the performance.
•
@ocelot._.band I can’t be happy enough to hear about them! I saw the fliers get rearranged and panic happen about venues and who was replacing who. Thank you for stepping up and helping put on a show! They performed quite a few songs. I was able to finally relax and feel confident being a bit of a loner, they had a very inviting presence. I’d love to attend more of their shows. They have one coming up on the 9th! I recommend you all check it out and support the band!

I fucks heavy with it. It’s easy to digest when you’re bored and you’re working or driving. I’m curious about there next albums and what they changed and didn’t change. This album is very consistent with theme and pacing. by @twoseinet_thoughts

John Prine • In Spite of Ourselves •
9.7/10

I really enjoyed this album. It made me feel at home. And riding in my grandpa’s Carhartt and wearing the dorky glasses he left me doesn’t feel so lonely anymore. The songs are about simple loves with odd quirks to them. Being broke, most of all and love works itself out anyhow. It’s my go to CD in my car right now. The music makes you feel like everything’s alright even when your luck on life is down. Or the wedding bells of someone else’s wedding makes you sad and it just happens that way.

It makes me feel like living life and to keep on chugging along. I won’t live rich but I’ll find a home just for me. And hopefully a love too. Often I feel like giving up all together but something to simple like those songs brings me down to earth. They sing all the right and wrong notes and it’s still messy but it’s okay.

John Prine picked the perfect partners to sing each song. And all of them are distinct with personality but find a common love and cheekiness. by @twoseinet_thoughts

Fishbone • The Reality Of My Surroundings • 9.1/10
I thoroughly enjoyed every track of this album and I’m excited to listen to some others I bought second hand recently. The whole time I was wondering how good this probably was live. I wish my cheap little CD player did it some justice. by @twoseinet_thoughts

Modest Mouse • Good News for People Who Love Bad News • 5.3/10
They started off strong within the first 10 seconds of the disc with ‘Horn Intro’ (track 1) and then they lost me almost immediately with ‘The World At Large’ (track 2). I suppose I don’t love the melody the guitars carry, it sounds very average and boy pablo indie. They deliver something slightly above average. There’s a spacial audio that carried throughout the album that lingers that I find in a lot today’s alternative artists. More mediocre singing from someone who can’t hit a single note if they tried. The vocalist would be better suited for a band with more grit than a band that’s lost the plot a few strums in. Something akin to Worthikids would suit him. And he needs to back the fuck up from the microphone in track 7 ‘Dance Hall’.

The instruments they used in ‘Bukowski’ tell me they can produce something good. Most of the band members played a second instrument and it added a lot. Though the vocals were very disappointing. But it might be asking them to change entirely.

Although they did catch my interest again with some of their songs. There’s about 20 seconds within each song that sounds good! But it doesn’t last. And the CD case is pink that always gets points in my box. I hope I can find myself coming around to it in the future. I’ll give them a second shot with a different album, I think.

Another! In which I hold a special place for it in my heart. On my first ever date I listened to the entire thing. I was, and still am, into westerns because of my grandpa. I had been missing him quite a bit and religiously watched western media that late summer. This is a style of music I had never been exposed to and it’s led me to so many different bands. I will be forever grateful that I learned more about myself through this unique introduction to whatever the hell style of music this is.

Beastie Boys • Licensed to Ill • 8.4/10
I’ve been familiar with their hits since I was a kid. I was never allowed to listen to them outside of ‘Brass Monkey’ or ‘Girls’ because of their “boys will be boys” lyrical choices. I got around to listening to their first album a while ago and it’s in my weekly song rotations at work. I think I have a very special spot for it because of my dad and that inhibits me from giving it an honest rating. I used to do a specific dance I made up to Brass Monkey when my dad would blast it in our old living room. I’m elated to be able to have a physical copy of it on my shelf.
