이전부터 저를 쭉 지켜봐 주셨던 분들은 아시겠지만, 투스탠다드는 굉장히 개인적인 브랜드라고 할 수 있을 것 같습니다. 작업물을 처음부터 차근차근 훑어보면, 인간 이기준이 그 시절 어떤 것에 관심을 두고 있었는지 알 수 있을 정도입니다. 스케이트보드를 타고 돌아다니던 시절에는 주변 로컬 스케이터들에게 제품을 선물하고 직접 촬영하기도 하고, 빈티지를 열심히 소비하던 때에는 빈티지샵들과 함께 작업하기도 하면서요. 최근에는 일본으로의 이사와 튠드에서 진행했던 팝업의 영향으로, 공간의 일부로 활용할 수 있는 텍스타일과 오브제 작업에 열을 올리고 있습니다. 의류로는 표현하기 어려운 부분까지 자유롭게 표현할 수 있고, 작업물이 어떤 공간에 어떤 모습으로 자리 잡느냐에 따라 전혀 다른 분위기를 보여준다는 점이 참 매력적입니다. Sashiko Mosaic Patchwork Textile Object는 원형으로 재단해 패치워크한 텍스타일의 테두리 부분을 바느질로 집어 고정해, 자연스러운 굴곡을 만든 오브제입니다. 형태를 고정하는 별도의 구조물 없이 제작했기 때문에 자연스러운 곡선이 존재하고, 표면을 안쪽으로 눌러 또 다른 형태로 활용할 수도 있습니다. 작은 전구를 오브제 위쪽에 배치해 연출해도 좋고, 벽에 걸지 않고 사용한다면 넉넉한 크기의 트레이로도 활용할 수 있습니다. 집 거실에서 패브릭 소파 위에 두 오브제를 나란히 놓고 촬영해 보았습니다. 액자를 대신해 사용해도 좋겠습니다. 온라인에서 확인하실 수 있습니다. 항상 감사합니다! 날씨가 많이 시원해졌습니다. 캐리어의 절반을 원단으로 채워 온 탓에 입을 옷이 별로 없어 곤란한 요즘입니다만,, 그래도 의복 생활을 즐기기에는 더할 나위 없이 좋은 날씨네요. 가을이 왔습니다. 의류 작업을 할 때면 ‘이 사람이 입으면 정말 멋있겠다!’라는 생각을 하곤 합니다. 그럴 때마다 제 머릿속에 떠오르는 한 사람이 있습니다. 스케이터 벤 카도우입니다. 왜인지는 모르겠습니다. 종종 찢어진 청바지나 패치워크 데님을 입은 그의 모습을 보곤 했는데, 그때마다 ‘와, 멋있다!’라고 생각했던 것 같아요. 참 박력 있습니다. 물론 제가 작업한 데님은 그가 입었던 바지들과는 조금 거리가 있습니다. 그래도 그가 입는다면 일본의 빈티지 원단들을 엮어 만든 이 데님이 꽤나 펑키하게 풀어질 것 같다는 생각이 듭니다. 얼마나 멋있을까요! 이렇게 길게 이야기했지만, 정작 저는 펑키한 착장과는 거리가 있습니다. 헤진 빈티지 샴브레이 셔츠를 대충 걸쳐 입고 패치워크 데님을 입었습니다. 그래도 괜찮습니다. 항상 감사합니다! 온라인 사이트에서 만나보실 수 있습니다. 집에서 멀지 않은 거리에 있는 가게에서 우연히 나가족의 텍스타일을 마주하게 되었습니다. 역시 언제나 새로운 천을 만나는 일은 즐겁습니다. 생각보다 찾기 어려운 오묘한 페이드의 블랙 컬러에서 오는 자연스럽게 낡은 느낌을 살리면서 작업하고 싶었습니다. 천연염색 카키시부 사시코 실과 사용감 있는 빈티지 천을 조합해 눈에 확 들어오는 대비는 줄이고, 적당한 여백을 두어 배경이 되는 천도 함께 즐길 수 있게 했습니다. 톱니 문양을 메인으로 자수를 놓았으며, 러프하게 디스를 낸 부분을 수선해 나가면서 전체적인 형태에 변형을 주었습니다. 그 결과 살짝 틀어진 듯한 모습을 볼 수 있습니다. 적당히 두께감이 있어 공간에 걸어두어도, 바닥에 깔아두어도 좋습니다. 96*196 Sawtooth Sashiko Patchwork Textile I wanted to preserve the naturally worn character that comes from the faded black color. I combined naturally dyed kakishibu sashiko thread with well-worn vintage fabrics to keep the contrast subtle, while leaving enough negative space to allow the background textile to be appreciated as well. I embroidered a sawtooth pattern as the main motif, then repaired the areas I had roughly distressed, gradually altering the overall form in the process. This resulted in a slightly crooked and irregular appearance. With its moderate weight and thickness, it can be enjoyed either hung in a space or laid out on the floor. by @twostandard
