This week is to celebrate breastfeeding for our strong māmās and precious bubbas. Everyone talks about how dreadful labour can be, but no one really warns you about how hard breastfeeding really is. It should be easy, right?... just chuck them on and away we go? Well for some lucky mums that could be the case, but for most it really isn’t. Breastfeeding is tears. It’s cracks and feelings of pain you’ve never experienced before. It’s expressing. Its the swelling and heaviness. Its thrush. It’s leaking. It’s lopsided at times. It’s supply. It’s tongue ties and failed latches. It’s wishing your partner didn’t have useless nips at 3am. It’s endless cluster feeding that feels like it’s taking over your life. It’s just really. fucking. hard. It’s even harder when you can’t. When you’ve tried all you could and it just didn’t work for you. It’s feeling devastated and having people ask you why you stopped. It’s the weird looks you get for using formula instead of nature’s free resource. It’s the guilt. It’s the fight to prove that you’re still a good mum. Regardless if you did it for days, weeks, or months - your breastfeeding journey counts and is special! So as proud as I am of those mums who tough it out and breastfeed their children daily, I’m equally as proud of the mums who feed their babies any other way because at least that’s a happy, healthy and FED baby. by @txydxv
