HAPPY 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY TO ME 🎉

For the past 10 years, I have been engaged in weekly/bi-weekly psychotherapy. And.. with a highly credentialed psychologist (yes I’m bragging).

I live a drug free life and I am not a heavy drinker, so I tend to face my issues head on. Some of you could not last a day in my life, let alone, the past 10 years.

The gym is NOT my therapy. Physical activity is NOT my therapy. Shopping is NO LONGER my therapy. Sex is NOT my therapy. Overeating is NOT my therapy. Drugs and alcohol is NOT my therapy. Most of all, my friends, family members, and significant other are NOT my therapy.

My therapist is my therapy and has worked with me through some of the most challenging and triumphant moments of my life.

The reason why I don’t look like what I have been through is because I keep a positive attitude, I laugh a lot, and go to mental health professionals to keep me balanced.

YES, I AM A PSYCHOLOGIST TOO. My main reason for sharing this is to show that we are not immune from experiencing the joys and pains of life. We just understand that therapy works for the mind, as any other form of medical treatment to heal physical ailments. Laying down on someone else’s couch, pouring out my issues , venting about my frustrations, and considering plausible solutions, is such a TRANSFORMATIVE experience.

My other reason for sharing this post is to help others who may be struggling and need some motivation to get better.

Recap of the 57th annual African American Day Parade aka “ The Harlem Parade.”

Stopped by the parade breakfast and saw Congressman Charles B Rangel Democratic club’s president Hon. #DerekPerkinson along with Brooklyn’s NY State Senator #KevinParker.

For the actual parade, I marched with Senator #CordellCleare, #TimothyHarrell and the Civilian Complaint Review Board Team.

Special shout out to NYS Assemblymember #AlTaylor, Mari Moss, and NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, NYC Councilmember Yusef Salaam (Not pictured),

Special thanks to NYC County Leader Keith Wright, Deneane Brown Blackmon, and the African American Day Parade Organizers @africanamericandayparade for helping to make the parade a success ❤️🖤💚

I have no idea who this “20 something”woman is, but we were both at a restaurant in DC. If you know this young lady, tag her to this post so that she can also have this photo.

#MysteryLady was so energetic and full of life. Instead of throwing shade towards her (or ignoring her altogether), I asked if we could take a pic because, to me, it was cool that two absolute strangers wore very similar outfits (I had mine for over 10 years).

Nevertheless, I grew up in an era where women embraced each other. We did not look for differences to divide us; we found similarities/commonalities that opened a pathway for bonding, networking, and lifelong friendships.

What better way to show the next generation how to socialize, than to lead by example?!
