My late father and hero Bob Plasto produced and directed Coronation Hill - Land of the Apocalypse. It Concerns mining at Guratba-Coronation Hill in Kakadu, an area recommended for World Heritage Listing, as well as the story of the apocalyptic beliefs of the oldest surviving culture on Earth. When @joshua.s.kirkman from @surfersforclimate approached me to help film, contribute and DOP the Great Australian Bight film, alongside Jamil Hassan I felt dad's presence pop up. The recommendation for world heritage listing of the bight from @unesco isn't quite there yet but you can go to surfersforclimate.org and spend 45 seconds putting your name down to extend the marine park protection zone. Thanks to the remarkable crew of filmmakers, surfers, locals and politicians who came together to share their passion for the Great Australian Bight and make this project happen.

We still want World Heritage for the Great Australian Bight, but that process can take a long time.

Right now, there’s an opportunity to rezone the Great Australian Bight Marine Park, and it gets decided soon, by the people who run our marine parks and our own Environment Minister. It would shut the door on Big Oil while we wait for World Heritage.

What we’re asking for is easy on paper. Take the existing zone that bans mining outright (currently protecting the whale nursery) and extend it over the water where the old drilling permits sat.
It’s one change inside a review that’s already happening, and if you fish out there, recreationally or commercially, none of this affects you. The only thing it stops is drilling.

For the first time in 10 years, the government’s taking public submissions for this review, but they close on 30 September.

The survey only takes 2 minutes, and it counts as your own submission, which we’ll deliver to the minister.

Thomas Campbell tasked me with the mission to produce a ski assisted shoot with Ozzie and Craig - not many get entrusted with that. So I organised Chris Bryan and John Respondek for phantom and stills, respectively. I remember us watching back my footage that afternoon at Craig's (which was really just a spare b angle) and Ozzie said, this is shit, I hate it. Which kinda made me like it more.. what surfer hates footage ? Pretty rare really so I took it as a compliment - like I'd achieved something. I didn't mind because I was commissioned to organise the shoot and I got that done. There is a beautiful section of this session shot on Chris's wide angle from water which is in Thom's Yi-wo film. Ollie drove the ski. My clips didn't see the light of day - but I don't think they were ever meant to and probably because I shot it with an 800mm and 1.4 extender and composed legs and feet. Don't take everything to heart, find a positive. Shit is good. Cheers Ozzie. by @tygelanda

Ryan Sewell organic tow ability resulting in a spine tingling air drop. I remember driving the ski and shooting same time and i knocked the monitor as i pulled the camera up and switched it off. I shot it blindly with a 70-200mm and did kinda misframe it, at the time I didn't know if I'd got him at all. @chop_sewelly is a super rare breed of bodyboarder with a 'just go hard' attitude everytime he enters the line up. He doesn't land everything and it prob bums him out - but no one lands everything. More to the point, no one looks like Greg does in the air, it really is an art form that is extremely captivating to shoot and watch. The real skinny goat in my opinion. @craig__anderson by @tygelanda

Fuel prices are up but is that now an excuse to try and drill for oil in this wonder of the world? No it's not. Let's keep it safe so people can keep getting absolutely flogged like @richievas does in this clip. Richie is a pioneer of slab surfing and also a gnarly MMA fighter so when he came in from this session he actually had a smile on his face. Sign the petition (in bio) it takes less than 30 seconds - feel good about helping save this area from destruction, let's get it world heritage listed through @unesco !!! by @tygelanda
