It’s thrilling to find the little unique moments of humanity that no one else encounters in the same way. Maybe this is why I travel. Or maybe what draws me to photography.

Either way, I plan to keep at it in 2026.

I spent 2 weeks bike packing solo around northern Vietnam. Did I mention I learned how to ride a motorcycle a month before to prep?

Choose to be the person who inspires you because why tf not..

In all honesty, the start of this trek scared me. I questioned myself multiple times. What are the rules on the road? How do I pump gas? Should I negotiate with the local police? What will I do if I get hurt? What if I get lost? Did I make a mistake?

Turns out the biggest risk was time, which I had. Once I understood that, I found myself driving up a side road simply because I wanted to touch the Chinese border of Vietnam. So I did that and then moved on to the next thing.

Did I say Japan was a vibe?

We rented a van in Osaka then biked around Kyoto where we met the kindest shop owner who was just thankful we came in. After a big night out we drove the van to the Japanese Alps region. Shirakawa-go was worth the drive at sunrise. Kamikochi was where we hiked through dark tunnels and met monkeys. Takayama, better skip it. From the Alps, we road tripped the Izu Peninsula, and ate the most delicious baked goods from a lady in a small cafe. I bought a small crocheted panda she made. We stayed up till 5a in Tokyo, then dropped off the van and headed home.

This trip felt like living in a fever dream. One of those van life trips to write about someday. For the time being, these pictures will have to suffice.

Too many stops in between, all different, all beautiful in their own way. Would do it again, absolutely. taken in Japan by @tylerjohnjohn

The act of driving around this mountain all day while hunting for new vantage points was the most playful and creative I’ve felt in a long time.

Our Japan looked a little different..

We chose #vanlifejapan for a couple weeks while Fall was transitioning to Winter. We ate trashy instant ramen and egg salad sandos from 7-11. We hiked through decommissioned tunnels to play with monkeys. We saw the sun rise most days.

We chose the path less travelled and were rewarded in memories to last a lifetime. taken in Japan by @tylerjohnjohn
