I will explain why the celebration of May 9 should be banned now.

Our grandparents did fight side by side in World War II from 1939 to 1945. They defeated Nazism, went through hell, lost their loved ones, survived blockades and concentration camps - so that we would never know the horrors of war again.

But on February 24, 2022, Russia came again with war. It came to Ukraine with tanks, airplanes, and ships. It came not to liberate, but to kill. And it came not just like that - but under the symbols of ZOV, the letters Z, V, with St. George's ribbons, which have now become symbols of a new evil.

With these same symbols, they march in "parades", carry posters of their "grandfathers", hiding behind their memory, while their country kills Ukrainian children, destroys homes, and wipes out entire cities.

This is not about memory anymore. It is about cynicism, cruelty, and lies.

Putin has repeatedly dedicated May 9 to "special operations," and thus turned this holiday into a political weapon.

Imagine what your grandfather would say if he saw you walking with his portrait, but next to the symbols that are now killing innocents. If he knew that everything he fought for was betrayed.

May 9 in the form in which it exists now in Russia is not about memory. It is about justifying the war. It is an unforgivable insult to all those who really fought for peace.
