Rose Tyson is an installation artist whose work focuses on the relationship between commerical objects and emotional reality. Her most recent show, Fluff: Play and the Material World, opened to wide acclaim. Featuring a multiroom deconstruction of a stuffed toy, Rose encouraged the viewer to question the role mass produced objects play in modern fantasies. Critics described the limited-time installation as "astonishing in scope" and "an exciting exploration of the artistic potential of Poly-fil."

While Fluff is no longer on display, Rose is hard at work preparing for her next exhibit, Substance, Space, and Soul: Bathrooms as Places of Community Engagement, set to open in the fall. When asked what the public could expect, Rose demured but hinted that sinks would be featured prominantly. by @tynetyson

Luna passed away on May 26, 2024. She was almost twenty years old.

I got Luna when I was eight and a half years old, after having a kitten had been my greatest wish for years. The moment I saw the little black kitten named "Sharpie" in the shelter, I knew she was my cat. On the ride home, we renamed her Luna Loony Lovegood Jaryn Eaven Tyson. Each of my younger sisters were allowed to give her a middle name.

As a young cat, Luna was adventurous and fiercely independent. Despite our plans to keep her indoors, she proved to be an escape artist, darting out the moment a door was cracked open. Despite our fears, she always came home.

She had many adventures in those years. She earned a notch in her ear fighting off the neighborhood tomcat. Days before my Bat Mitzvah, she was bitten by a poisonous copperhead snake - and lived to tell the tale.

Once while we were on vacation during my Grandma Claire's illness, she became trapped under the house for a week. I got home and my parents sat me down to tearfully tell me Luna had likely left us for good. I ran out of the house and started calling for her, and she immediently responded. I'll never forget the relief of holding her after we freed her from the crawlspace.

As Luna got older, she became content to watch over her domain, her yearning for adventure satisfied. She still liked to go outside and look around, but mostly sat on the porch and enjoyed the sunshine. She became much more cuddly, and first for ten or fifteen minutes at a time, then letting my dad brush her every evening, and finally deciding to sleep next to me on the bed every night.

Luna moved to Nebraska with me for medical school, and I often said she was the hardest working animal in the state, providing around the clock emotional support. She sat next to me while I studied for both of my Steps. When I received the email that I hadn't matched, she barely left my side though the exhausting, emotional SOAP process. When I received an offer to come to Charleston, one of the first things I thought was that the heat would be better for her arthritis.

Luna lived longer then most cats, and I believe she was waiting to leave until she knew I was go by @tynetyson

The Second Life Supply Art Show was an absolute dream! I highly encourage you to head over to @secondlifesupply and apply for the winter group show before the app closes in two days. This has been one of the most rewarding artistic experiences I've ever had. It's an incredibly supportive community that made my first show an amazing experince. I learned so much from these amazing artists AND made new friends!

I had a lot of fun with this piece! The materials I got in the white elephant supply swap really pushed me outside my comfort zone, and I love the result! I think I'm going to be doing plenty more experiments in this vein. by @tynetyson

Neal R. Tyson died peacefully in his home in Deerfield, Illinois on September 11, 2023. Neal was born Monday, March 9, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois, second son to Simon (Ty) Tyrus Tyson and Adeline (Ad) Fox Tyson. Neal had a happy childhood roaming the north-side streets of Chicago with his older brother, Max, and his first cousins Marty and Matty. Under the not-so-attentive eye of his mother and aunt, they engaged in the normal youthful shenanigans on the streets . Neal attended Senn High School where he was a member of the Majestics Social Club and made a number of friends he maintained for his entire life. In addition, it was in Senn High School that he first met Myrna Liebman, whom he would later marry on January 2, 1964 after they had both graduated from the University of Illinois. Neal and Myrna were married just shy of 60 years.

In his own words, never much of a scholar, Neal found himself drawn to accounting for which he had a natural predilection. He graduated with a degree in accounting and sat for and passed the CPA exam. Always an avid sportsman, Neal spent his early married life crewing on competitive sailboats on Lake Michigan. Neal started his professional life working as an auditor for the Internal Revenue Service. Finding the role of tax rule enforcer not to his liking, Neal left after 1 year - much to the chagrin of his mother, Ad, who could not understand why he didn't just hold on for another 30 years to get that sweet government pension. Neal went to work for a CPA practice and, this too, was not meant to be.

Realizing working for others was not for him, Neal formed a partnership with Ron Katch and created Katch, Tyson and Company. Ron and Neal successfully grew the firm into a high quality small-client focused firm supporting both business and individuals with their tax and accounting needs over the course of 30 years. Neal loved his clients and his client's loved Neal. And Neal cared deeply about his staff, many of whom stayed with the firm for decades.

A loyal friend, Neal garnered many strong friendships throughout his life. He had a standing poker game for over 25 years and was an avid tennis player prior to the onset (rest in comments) by @tynetyson

I want to thank my Mom and Dad, my sisters Jaryn and Avery, my Papa, my Bubbe and Grampy, and all of my friends, without whom this accomplishment would have been impossible. Maybe I took the tests, but I couldn't have done this without your love and support. I feel incredibly grateful and excited to start the next chapter of my life. by @tynetyson

Proud to be standing against Legislative Bill 626 as part of the Nebraska Alliance for Physician Advocacy.

Abortion bans are bad for patients, physicians, and the whole community. Please contact your state senator today and tell them to vote NO to Legislative Bill 626, also known as the Nebraska Heartbeat Act! by @tynetyson
