Type 1 diabetes may become part of your story, but it never has to be the author of it.

A diagnosis can bring fear, uncertainty, and challenges that most people will never see. There will be days that feel overwhelming and moments when you wonder if your dreams are still possible. But your diagnosis does not determine your destiny.

Set goals that scare you. Chase the dreams that make your heart come alive. Whether it’s becoming an athlete, a nurse, a teacher, an artist, or simply making it through another difficult day with courage, you are capable of more than you know. Living with Type 1 diabetes requires strength, resilience, and determination every single day. Those qualities don’t hold you back they prepare you to overcome obstacles that others may never face. Don’t let anyone, including yourself, tell you that your future has limits because of your diagnosis. You are more than a blood sugar number. You are more than insulin, carb counting, or devices. You are strong, resilient, and filled with purpose. Your dreams are still yours to pursue. Keep setting goals. Keep showing up. Keep believing in yourself. Type 1 diabetes is something you live with it is not who you are. by @type1emmashelton

MYTH: Sugar causes Type 1 Diabetes.
FACT: Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease.

During National Diabetes Week, let’s replace myths with facts. 💙

Type 1 Diabetes is not caused by eating too much sugar or by lifestyle choices. It happens when the immune system mistakenly attacks the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, and there is currently no way to prevent it.

Education saves lives, creates understanding, and helps families living with Type 1 Diabetes feel seen and supported. Let’s keep spreading awareness one fact at a time. 🩵

Yesterday, I had the honor of giving gift bags to four incredible women graduating from Project Alley. Recovery is not an easy journey, and their strength, perseverance, and commitment to a better future deserve to be celebrated.
Addiction has touched my own family, so seeing these women reach this milestone means even more to me. As someone whose brother faced addiction, I know the battles that are often fought behind the scenes. I am so proud of these ladies for choosing hope, healing, and a new beginning. Their stories are a reminder that recovery is possible and every step forward is worth celebrating. ❤️

Hearing Declans story after being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes truly touched my heart. No child should have to navigate the challenges that come with type 1 diabetes, but seeing his courage and smile through it all is incredibly inspiring. I’m so grateful he has the opportunity to attend a T1D camp in Orlando, Florida a place where he can be surrounded by others who understand his journey and remind him that he is never alone.
Through my “Type 1 Day at a Time” scholarship fund, I was honored to gift him $400 to help make this experience possible. Moments like this are exactly why I continue to advocate, raise awareness, and pour my heart into the T1D community. 💙

That phrase minimizes a reality so many people fight every single day. Type 1 diabetes is constant calculations, sleepless nights, fear of dangerous lows, exhaustion, injections, alarms, and carrying the weight of a disease that never takes a break. 🩸💉

March is Autoimmune Disease Awareness Month — and type 1 diabetes is exactly that. 💙

Type 1 diabetes isn’t caused by diet or lifestyle. It’s an autoimmune condition where the body mistakenly attacks the cells that produce insulin. It’s something people live with every single day — managing blood sugar, counting carbs, giving insulin, and staying strong through the highs and lows (literally).

This month is about education, awareness, and compassion for everyone living with autoimmune diseases. Let’s continue to support, uplift, and advocate for research, understanding, and those who fight battles that often go unseen.

Awareness matters. Support matters. Every voice matters. 💙

HOLLY DAYS PARADE 🎅🏽🌲🤍
I was so grateful to be part of the Holly Days parade this year. It’s something I’ve always loved, because there’s nothing like seeing our whole community come together to celebrate, laugh, and make memories. Being out there, surrounded by familiar faces and holiday spirit, reminded me just how special our town truly is!

November is Diabetes Awareness Month, a time to spread education and understanding about type one diabetes. This month, I’ll be sharing the signs and symptoms to help others recognize them early. My own brother experienced constant, painful hives for months before being diagnosed—he went three months undiagnosed, and nothing seemed to help. It was heartbreaking to watch, but it taught me how important awareness truly is. Early recognition can make all the difference. 🎗️💙🩸

Today I took my little finger buddy puppet along for a shopping trip to gather food and supplies for our local food pantry! With the government shut down, so many families are in greater need of daily necessities, and it felt amazing to help make even a small difference.
