A little bit about me!

I realised I haven’t really given any of you any details about me…. So let’s go!

I’m Naomi

Diagnosed diabetic on the 12th June 2026 (ironically during diabetes awareness week in the UK)
I also have another chronic illness called pernicious anaemia, meaning my body doesn’t know what to do with vitamin B12 and if left untreated I can get seriously poorly.
I was also born with one kidney 😂
I work within NHSBT and it’s probably the best job I’ve ever had.
I have ran a 10k before but that was two years ago and I trained so poorly that I had to stop running due to severe shin splints.

I was unsuccessful getting into the Great North run so will be taking part in the Silverstone half marathon instead :) (which is great cas I’m a massive F1 fan!)

I have family members who also have T1 diabetes and I am raising for @diabetesuk due to the work they have done and continue to do to make diabetes advocated for and researched.

I will be doing a 10k in March (North Lincolnshire 10k) and will be planning other running events in between - with this being my main page for updating!

All my runs are logged on Strava and uploaded to my just giving page :)

Hello!

My name is Naomi :)

I have type one diabetes, pernicious anaemia and was only born with one kidney.

Over the next year I will be training for my first ever half marathon, with plenty of running training in between.

Confirmed events so far:

- North Lincolnshire 10 km in March

I am currently waiting to see if I got accepted in the ballot for the Great North Run!

Tomorrow is a very big day for me.

I am, finally, going onto a close looped system with @omnipoduk

A closed loop system is when my sensor communicates with an insulin pump and, theoretically, takes a lot of my mental strain away as they communicate to stabilise my blood sugars.

I have been T1 diabetic for just over 3 years, but have grown up around T1 diabetics and have seen the development in diabetes tech.

This will be a massive learning curve for me, but I am so excited!

Hopefully this will make training for the half marathon easier :)
