โ€œAlright Shadow letโ€™s show โ€˜em what youโ€™re made of, yeah?โ€ I talk to the beefy stallion as he jerks his head up and down ready to go.
โ€”โ€”
Finally, the release. We speed into the arena. I pull up on the short barrel reins just enough so I can grab the flag from the canister. I release without meaning to and Shadow starts booking it again. Thankfully, my hand is wrapped around the little flag.
โ€”โ€”
โ€œDonโ€™t waste it all here,โ€ Iโ€™m begging the stallion as he thunders for the other side of the arena. We make it and round the barrel. I dunk the flag into the canister as Shadow goes ahead and takes off for home.
โ€”โ€”
Weโ€™re out of the arena. I exhale and pat his neck. Josh is standing there waiting for me. โ€œThat was fast. Really fast!โ€ I exclaim. taken in Mirkwood Ranch by @tyra.wolfwell

โ€”โ€”
โ€œWo-oah, Whizzyโ€ฆโ€ I exhale and take my legs off of the galloping stallionโ€™s sides. He buries his legs deep into the ground. I shake the reins up to gain his balance.
โ€”โ€”
I glue my right leg to Whizโ€™s and he bolts around in a left rollback. We lope back down to the opposite side of the square arena cutting down into a sliding stop once again as we pass the last marker.
โ€”โ€”
Right rollback. Now we speed down to the other side and stop a little ways past the center. I shove my rein hand into his mane as his neck goes down. โ€œBack up, Whiz, back it upโ€ฆโ€ I mutter and pull up on him until heโ€™s moving.
โ€”โ€”
Once we are at the center marker we breathe in hesitation. I adjust my mess of a seat and tilt him around 90ยฐ. Facing the small audience of onlookers (the majority of folks cleared out after the Grand Prix), we spin four times to the right. Whizโ€™s spins are so fun to ride. No match for his rollbacks, but still a thrill.
โ€”โ€”
Hesitation. Then we make our left circles. Three with the first two fast and the last one slow. A sliding stop in the middle. Four spins to the right now following a hesitation. Mirror the circles on the right. Sliding stop. Hesitate
โ€”โ€”
Lastly, we begin a large and fast circle to the left. We extend the circle out, not closing it in at the center, and run down the wall. We slide to our last stop at the end. Soft applause from the bleachers. A moment of hesitation andโ€ฆ โ€œWe did it, Whiz! You still got it.โ€

โ€œMy allergies are going to make me die, Josh.โ€ I enthused dramatically as I inhaled another annoying sniffle.
โ€”โ€”
Josh, standing on Partyโ€™s left shoulder, looked up at me pitifully. โ€œWant me to get you a tissue?โ€ He offered.
โ€”โ€”
โ€œNo, but thanks. Itโ€™s about to be my turn.โ€
โ€”โ€”
This was true enough. The last duoโ€™s cow escaped into the herd just as I said that. Party and I were up. We snaked into the arena past the exiting horse and got ready. I slid the reins through my hand.
โ€”โ€”
โ€œWolfwell onโ€ฆ Copper Dunโ€ฆโ€ The announcerโ€™s microphone crackled and skipped words. I guess sea air and speaker systems donโ€™t mix too well.
โ€”โ€”
As our time began we got to work, isolating a tan little heifer and predicting her movements as she tried to get back to the hard. Party sank into the footing of the arena, all but laying in it, boxing the cow.
โ€”โ€”
We kept her and moved on to the next cow. I wasnโ€™t sure how much of our 2 and a half minutes were left as I picked out a solid black cow. She was quicker but Party was smarter and kept up with her. Time was up.
โ€”โ€”
A small eruption of applause from the other riders and their horse husbands and wives came from the friendly group of JWA followers outside the arena. I let the reins sag over Partyโ€™s neck and scratched her.
โ€”โ€”
โ€œNice work, Tyra! You looked great.โ€ Josh complimented as I came back out of the arena.

โ€”โ€”
โ€œLetโ€™s do it, sweet girl!โ€ I exclaim as Willow and I take off into the arena. Her little Arabian feet trample over soft ground and we cut the arena across in half.
โ€”โ€”
โ€œWoah-oh!โ€ I exclaimed as we hit the 3/4 point, tugging a tuft of her mane upwards. The dainty mare rolled into a stop.
โ€”โ€”
We rollbacked to the right and did it all again on the other side. I was gentle with her mane, making my vocal commands clear in place of the bridle.
โ€”โ€”
We rollbacked left and came back to our original spot. Here, we back up to the middle of the arena. I dropped my hand in our hesitation, retwining her soft mane through my fingers.
โ€”โ€”
We then performed four incredible spins to the right. Then we did them left. Then, three nice circles to the right, a lead change in the middle, and three to the left. Finally, we changed leads again and ran down the wall before stopping and hesitating for the final time.
โ€”โ€”
โ€œWoohoo!โ€ I shouted and wrapped my arms around Willowโ€™s neck. โ€œI love, love, a thousand times, love you!โ€ I spoke into her pricked black ear. taken in Reintree Stables by @tyra.wolfwell

Successful first ride for my niece and nephew, Valerie and Vamar! I sent this picture to Roxie shortly after. Valerie rode old reliable Navy and Vamar rode Princess! Princess loves little kids with her entire heart. She turns into a different horse when the little ones are on her. Both kiddos absolutely fell in love with the horses and I canโ€™t wait to have them out again! taken in My Ranch by @tyra.wolfwell

I stumbled into Miss Ritaโ€™s studio in Aideenโ€™s Plaza with CeCeโ€™s leash wound tightly in my hand. It really was too long for a puppy.
โ€”โ€”
Miss Rita was instructing a group of children on the far side of the dance studio and their parents were waiting on the opposite wall. It took a minute of scanning before I spotted Roxie. She was still in her office clothes.
โ€”โ€”
โ€œTyra!โ€ She waved when she spotted me. I made my way over. โ€œCan you believe how hot it is? I had to take my blazer off.โ€
โ€”โ€”
โ€œHey, Roxie. Whatโ€™s going on? What did you need me here for?โ€
โ€”โ€”
My sister gave me a smug grin. โ€œWellโ€ฆโ€ she began with her eyes drifting back towards her daughter and son. โ€œThe kids are almost done with their ballet class. I was thinking afterwards you could take them to the ranch for a riding lesson?โ€
โ€”โ€”
She said it so casually I was certain I heard her incorrectly. โ€œWhat? Are you serious?โ€
โ€”โ€”
She nodded nonchalantly. โ€œIf that isnโ€™t inconvenient for you.โ€
โ€”โ€”
โ€œWhโ€” of course not! Iโ€”โ€œ I stopped to gather my words. โ€œAre you sure?โ€
โ€”โ€”
Roxie sighed and looked on at the two tiny dancers. โ€œThese are two of the most voracious kids. If they want to take up horseback riding, wellโ€ฆ I want it for them too. Micah and I have been talking about it. My issues shouldnโ€™t define what horses mean for them. And Tyra, I trust you. I really do.โ€ taken in Dance Class by @tyra.wolfwell

Tyra Wolfwell on First Class
#StrawberryShortcakeWPT
โ€”โ€”
I justified my purchasing of this strawberry themed tack set and outfit by telling myself I was going to enter every class at this pleasure show (even hunter under saddle!) But then, Roxie called me last night and wants me to come meet her in Jorvik City today. So that only left time to enter one class, frustratingly. Whatever she needs me for better be worth it!
โ€”โ€”
Fera, sweet as a shortcake herself, eases into the arena at a delicate walk. We approach the first obstacle which is 4 half poles arranged into a square. Gently, she steps her forelegs over and we maneuver around the box.
โ€”โ€”
Next up, we jog over a set of poles and then pick up the lope over poles at a slant. She feels nice to ride on this early morning.
โ€”โ€”
Weโ€™re back down to the walk now and we pass through a gate. Fera waits patiently for me to open the gate before she steps over the ground pole. I loop the rope back across. We jog again and over some more ground poles.
โ€”โ€”
The last obstacle is a bridge. We slow it down. Feraโ€™s nose sniffs the bridge, painted in a strawberry pink color, and then steps onto it. We cross and then jog off. taken in The Show by @tyra.wolfwell

Tyra Wolfwell on The Best Or Nothing
#sainteden3day2026
โ€”โ€”
I donโ€™t do a lot of jumping but if I had to, then this would be it, I decide while inhaling the breezy summer air of Everwind Fields. Outdoors over exciting obstacles? Sounds like another day on the ranch. I love it.
โ€”โ€”
Cedes paces gently and ready in our starting position. Heโ€™s not worried so neither am I. Itโ€™s not like riding Hershey, I shudder, remembering our fall in the creek a few years back.
โ€”โ€”
When itโ€™s time to go we burst off with good speed. The sound of Cedes hooves plummeting into the grass is amazing. We head for the first jump, a little log, and make it over easy. A few strides ahead is a taller pile of logs but we make it over. The gelding collects himself as the ground unevens.
โ€”โ€”
Part of the road is blocked off for the course with one of those jumps that looks like a little house. Whatโ€™s that called again? My mind wanders for a brief second before weโ€™re a few strides away. Up into my two-point and weโ€™re over.
โ€”โ€”
The course continues and the jumps change as we go around the outskirts of the Baronessโ€™ Racetrack and eventually down past the Silverglade Manor. Weโ€™re setting up straight for a water jump when I feel the familiar slip. Weโ€™re going over too early.
โ€”โ€”
โ€œCedes!โ€ I shriek, but he lands solidly into the shallow creek, the water splashing up and cooling both of us down pleasantly. Trust restored, we thunder through to the next jump.
โ€”โ€”
The course ends down by the Silversong in a beautiful Willow Tree pass. โ€œWoohoo!โ€ I cheer as Cedes settles down to a trot. An attendee hands me a water bottle. I dump some of it over Cedes neck first and then chug it down. Not bad! taken in Silverglade by @tyra.wolfwell

โ€œRedโ€™s maneโ€ฆ.โ€ I grieved before entering the arena, letting the skimpy strands of red hair flutter through my fingers.
โ€œWhat?โ€ Josh protested. โ€œHe loves his new haircut!โ€
Note to self: donโ€™t let a man cut your horseโ€™s hair. Even a very nice man.
โ€”โ€”
We headed into the arena as the last rider jogged out. At the extended jog we paced forward along the right railing and over a set of four logs. Then we came upon a bridge and slowed to the regular jog to cross it. Once over, we return to our extended jog.
โ€”โ€”
We enter a wooden Y and halt at the end of the chute. Nudging my boot heel into Redโ€™s side, I prepare him to back out the other side of the Y from which we came in. He does so well. We then go back through it at the extended jog and make a sharp turn as we come out.
โ€”โ€”
We slow to a walk and head over another set of wooden logs. Then, we move directly into the lope and diagonally cut through the arena and make way over a very low, naturey prop jump. On the other side we switch leads and lope around a barrel with some flowers on it. I feel a bit like a working eq rider for a moment.
โ€”โ€”
We slow to a walk and ultimately halt at a gate. Carefully positioning ourselves so I can reach the gate loop with my right hand, we open it, enter, and close it behind us before jogging past it. The audience applause between each maneuver is encouraging to Redโ€™s ears.
โ€”โ€”
The last thing on our pattern is to side pass over some more logs. We ready ourselves and follow suit, and then jog out of the arena. taken in The Show by @tyra.wolfwell

Walter Wolfwell on Jokerโ€™s Money
#jwa_cbs_2026
โ€”โ€”
(Grandpaโ€™s POV)
Harleyโ€™s got an old soul. Thatโ€™s something you can feel when you get to being my age. Maybe thatโ€™s why her and I get on so well.
โ€”โ€”
We enter the arena at a steadfast lope and gain acceleration as we cover ground. 3/4 down we stop and Harleyโ€™s feet roll underneath her body in a cloud of dust. Itโ€™d make a man who wasnโ€™t used to it cough or hack.
โ€”โ€”
I shook Harley back up and balanced and kept asking her to back. She minded and we headed back to the middle of the arena. Pause. Then we faced the left wall with a slow turn. Now for the fun part. We spun to the left 3 times with Harleyโ€™s Rapunzel mane gathering cooโ€™s of admiration from the audience as it picked up wind. We came to a hesitation. Then we spin 3 times to the right. Hesitate it out.
โ€”โ€”
Next up were the circles. We took the first two to the left with a grace but fast footed speed making them large enough to occupy most of the room in the arena. The last was little and lopey which was preferable on easy-to-ride Harley.
โ€”โ€”
We changed leads in the middle and the gray mare swished her tail. The circles were mirrored on the right side before ultimately changing back to the left lead. We rounded out a big circle and then ran down the right wall. Long stop. Rollback right. Do it on the other side. Rundown. Stop. โ€œAtta girl, thatโ€™s the way to do it.โ€ taken in The Show by @tyra.wolfwell

Josh Wayne on Puzzled For It
#jwa_cbs_2026
โ€”โ€”
(Joshโ€™s POV)
Puzzle and I flowed into the arena at unmatched speed. As I watched the last set of orange cones pass my peripheral vision, I lifted my legs from Puzzleโ€™s sides and toyed up the reins. She put on the brakes and rolled into a long stop.
โ€”โ€”
I wiggled the reins upwards getting her back on her feet in straight into the back up. As she plunged her hooves into the ground below us, I flicked my head to the right every few seconds to see how close we were getting to the middle cone. When we reached it, I let the reins fall. Puzzleโ€™s movement broke.
โ€”โ€”
We turn around so weโ€™re facing the left wall. I give us a hesitation to adjust. Then, I start to tap my heel into Puzzleโ€™s cinch for a spin. Sheโ€™s moving before my foot even touches her, but doesnโ€™t mind the squeezing as if only to entertain my nerves. What a dream horse.
โ€”โ€”
We spin thrice to the left and shake out a hesitation. Three the other direction now. Hesitate. Puzzle already knows whatโ€™s coming as she steps towards the left side of the arena. I kiss to her and she takes the signal. Two nice and big circles at a fast gait to the left and then we drop down to an easier lope to make the third, small one. A lead change when we come back to the middle and we mirror it on the other side.
โ€”โ€”
After our final right circle, we change our lead in the middle again and start another big circle. Donโ€™t close it, go to the wall, I repeat in my head as I visualize the pattern. We run down the wall. โ€œAtta girl, Puzz,โ€ I say or at least mouth the words with my lips. She slides into a deep and powerful stop, her nose nearly tipping the back rail. A quick rollback to the right and weโ€™re going around to the other side. Reach, stop, rollback left. Itโ€™s when weโ€™re on the right wall again that we stop for the final time. taken in The Show by @tyra.wolfwell
