🏥 UGAS at the Health Systems & Financing Workshop for Journalists

📍 Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz, UKM

Representatives from United for Global Antimicrobial Stewardship (UGAS) attended the Health Systems & Financing Workshop for Journalists, a dialogue bringing together public health experts, media professionals, and policy stakeholders to discuss Malaysia’s healthcare system and future reform directions.

The workshop explored key themes including health systems structure, healthcare financing, workforce challenges, and the role of media in shaping informed public discourse on health policy.

It was a valuable opportunity to hear perspectives from experts including speakers from the World Health Organization, United Nations University International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH), Citizens’ Health Initiative, and the Malaysian Medical Association.

For UGAS, understanding health systems and how public health issues are communicated through media is essential to strengthening advocacy efforts on antimicrobial resistance and broader global health challenges.

We look forward to continuing to engage with partners across sectors to promote informed dialogue and evidence-based health communication.

UGAS was honoured to be invited to MyOHUN YouthXchange (OHMY-X), a national youth platform organised by the Malaysia One Health University Network (MyOHUN) to strengthen multidisciplinary youth leadership in One Health.

MyOHUN continues to play a pivotal role in convening universities, government agencies, and young leaders across Malaysia to advance integrated approaches to human, animal, and environmental health, particularly in addressing zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), environmental health challenges, and health security.

The YouthXchange programme provided an impactful space for dialogue, capacity building, and cross-disciplinary collaboration, equipping participants with the knowledge and networks needed to contribute meaningfully to Malaysia’s One Health agenda.

UGAS is grateful to MyOHUN for the invitation and for their leadership in nurturing a future-ready One Health workforce.

UGAS was honoured to participate in the One-Day AMR Awareness Programme held in conjunction with World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW) 2025, organised by Third World Network (TWN) and the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

Through our speaker session and exhibition booth, UGAS engaged with over 200 students and early-career health professionals, promoting One Health perspectives, responsible antimicrobial use, and youth-led advocacy against antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

We sincerely thank TWN and USM for the invitation and for their leadership in advancing evidence-based, student-driven AMR awareness and action.

🌱 UGAS at the Young Health Champions Programme

📍 2025

We were excited to represent United for Global Antimicrobial Stewardship (UGAS) at the Young Health Champions engagement programme organised by the World Health Organization Representative Office for Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and Singapore.

The session brought together passionate youth leaders and organisations working across public health issues to exchange ideas, share experiences, and explore how young people can play a stronger role in shaping healthier communities.

During the programme, UGAS highlighted the growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and the importance of youth-led initiatives in promoting responsible antibiotic use and antimicrobial stewardship.

It was inspiring to connect with other young advocates who are committed to making a difference in public health.

In conjunction with World Antimicrobial Awareness Week, United for Global Antimicrobial Stewardship (UGAS) participated in the AMR Media Engagement Workshop organised by the World Health Organization Representative Office for Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and Singapore.

The workshop brought together youth organisations, media representatives and public health stakeholders to strengthen communication efforts on antimicrobial resistance (AMR), a growing global health threat.

UGAS contributed youth perspectives on antimicrobial stewardship, science communication and the role of youth-led initiatives in raising public awareness.

We thank the World Health Organization Representative Office for Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and Singapore for convening this important dialogue.

This recognition affirms our commitment to advancing youth leadership, global health advocacy, and health diplomacy, particularly in strengthening evidence-based action and policy engagement on antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

The conference convened youth leaders, diplomats, policymakers, and civil society representatives from around the world to engage in dialogue on peacebuilding, sustainable development, and international cooperation.

UGAS remains dedicated to empowering young leaders as agents of change at the intersection of science, policy, and global health.
