The Rising Tide 2.0 Capital Campaign helped fortify the future of The University of Alabama by investing in the people and programs that make our campus – and state – stronger every day. Thank you for being part of this extraordinary journey and the impact it will have for generations.

Through the generosity of 8,691 donors and 26,991 gifts, the Barefield College of Arts & Sciences raised a total of $179,401,827, reaching 149% of our $120 million goal.

Since the campaign began on October 1, 2016, the College has established 119 new endowed scholarships, created 23 new endowed faculty funds, received the largest academic naming gift in the University’s history, establishing the J. Frank Barefield Jr. College of Arts & Sciences, and secured UA’s largest academic capital project gift for the Smith Family Center for the Performing Arts. Dr. Francis Halzen, the principal investigator of IceCube Neutrino Observatory which has a research group at UA, won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics this week for “decisive contributions to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the discovery of high-energy neutrinos of astrophysical origin.”

Dr. Dawn Williams and Dr. Marcos Santander, the Department of Physics & Astronomy faculty members who lead the UA IceCube group, said this Nobel Prize in Physics is exciting news for their collaboration.

“This is a well-deserved recognition of Prof. Halzen’s vision of turning a cubic kilometer of Antarctic ice into a unique telescope that can peer deep into the hearts of distant active galaxies and open new ways of exploring our own,” Santander said. “Accomplishing that goal has been the result of the work of hundreds of scientists and technicians, and we’re very proud to be part of the project here at UA.”

When Nevaeh Anderson first started interning with @uadmrc , she didn’t realize she would be playing I Spy with ancient artifacts.

Anderson’s internship, which she obtained through her minor in the Blount Scholars Program, was to comb through Egyptian artifacts and not-quite-Egyptian artifacts and identify the true Egyptian artifacts.

Anderson is taking her internship experience and transforming it into an ASSURE research project about Egyptian artifacts and their influence on modern art to show how art history can be restructured.

“It’s aimed to show the visual references to ancient Egypt that appear in African American artist practices and how they engage with the history," Anderson said.

From looking at small slides to seeing the big picture, microbiology junior Izzy Franchione addresses maternity care deserts in West Alabama through her research with the UAB Heersink School of Medicine.

Supported by an ASSURE grant, Franchione began working with Dr. Holly Horan in the Department of OBGYN after hearing her speak during a McCollough Scholars Program class.

“One of the things that Dr. Horan talked about in her presentation was how so many women, especially in West Alabama, have to travel over 30 miles to receive care,” Franchione said. “That really opened my eyes, and I have a personal connection thinking about if my mom was in that scenario, so just from there, I feel like it really resonated with me, even though it’s beyond what I study on a typical day-to-day basis.”

Moundville Archaeological Park and the Jones Museum, part of The University of Alabama, will celebrate the rich cultures and histories of Native Americans who call Alabama their homeland at the 38th annual Moundville Native American Festival October 1-3, 2026!

The festival will feature Native American dancers, storytellers, crafters, demonstrators, art vendors, and a selection of local and Native food vendors. From traditional dishes to regional favorites, visitors of all ages can taste and learn about the living traditions that began here in Alabama and continue to thrive today.

This year’s theme, “Year of the Crawfish: Big Changes Start with Small Beings,” highlights the important roles that even the smallest creatures play in the natural world. Inspired by a story written by Houma artist, musician, and storyteller Grayhawk Perkins, the theme encourages visitors to explore how small actions, small voices, and small beings can create meaningful change.

For admission, location, and schedule information, visit festival.museums.ua.edu or the Link in Bio.

LC Lang, a senior majoring in dance and accounting, spends her out-of-classroom time at The University of Alabama surrounded by dancers, engaging with the dance community and spending countless hours preparing for dance shows.

She used these on-campus experiences to earn an arts administration internship for New York City’s Ailey Extension, which brings dance to ordinary people.

“I had a lot of background that I created for myself and experiences I created at UA that helped me get ready for that [the internship],” Lang said. “It has just been a great experience to make my own path. When people ask me what I like about UA, that’s the main thing, I was able to make my path.”
