UAEMS is proud to present our submission for the 2026 NCEMSF Video of the Year.
Our strength comes from the individuals who make up this agency. Their teamwork, skill, and commitment to their patients, our community, and each other are what sustain this agency day in and day out. The trust built within this team is what allows us to serve our campus with confidence and professionalism. We thank our EMTs and the rest of our Tucson community, whose dedication and support drives this agency’s growth and makes collegiate EMS not only possible, but truly exceptional.❤️🐻⬇️ by @ua_ems

This past weekend our Chiefs and Captains attended the annual NCEMSF Conference in Arlington, VA. With fellow collegiate EMS agencies from across the country, we shared ideas, strengthened partnerships, and celebrated the work being done to advance student-led prehospital care.

For the third year in a row, UAEMS received a CPR Save Award. EMTs Jacob Brown, Charlie Stemple, Ethan Leigh, William Bastman, and Jared Matheson were recognized for their lifesaving actions during an on-campus cardiac arrest. Their teamwork, clinical excellence, and commitment to our community exemplify what it means to serve.

We are also proud to be recognized as a Gold Tier NCEMSF EMS Ready Campus, reflecting our continued dedication to high standards in training, preparedness, and response.

These honors represent the collective effort of our EMTs, past and present, whose dedication has shaped our agency into what it is today. Bear Down, Go Cats 🐻⬇️ #ncemsf by @ua_ems

UAEMS is honored to introduce the Sophia Troetel First Responder Memorial Scholarship.

Sophia was a bright, compassionate, and dedicated member of our Wildcat community, known for her kindness and her genuine desire to help others. To carry forward the spirit she brought to our community, we have renamed our First Responder scholarship in her honor, with the goal of continuing to foster knowledge, growth, and a commitment to compassionate service among future EMTs.

First Responder Scholarship recipients receive reimbursement for their EMT-B certification program and have the opportunity to ride along with our 9-1-1 crews, gain unique hands-on experience, attend professional trainings, and participate in campus and community outreach events.

Applications for the Sophia Troetel First Responder Memorial Scholarship are now open and will close December 28th at 2359. For additional information please visit ems.arizona.edu. by @ua_ems

The EMS Physicians 1 Program brings emergency room care directly to the roadside 🏥 🚨

The program is a collaboration between the University of Arizona, Tucson Fire Department, Northwest Fire District, and Golder Ranch Fire District, offering physician-level care for major trauma injuries caused by events like severe motor vehicle accidents. An EMS physician and UAEMS EMT staff the Physician 1 vehicle and help respond to 911 calls throughout the Tucson community.

Amber Rice, MD, is one of the EMS Physicians who regularly staff the Physician 1 vehicle. Alongside Dr. Rice is EMT Olivia Huang, Deputy Chief of Operations for UAEMS. Huang is a current U of A student who is also a highly trained EMT. Working with Dr. Rice in the field gives her even more hands-on training in emergency medicine that directly benefits the community.

The Physician 1 vehicle is unique because it is equipped with advanced medical interventions like antibiotics for open fractures, rapid blood transfusion and surgical equipment. These kinds of procedures are typically done in an emergency department, but the Physician 1 vehicle provides physician-level care for patients as soon as possible. by @ua_ems

Four years ago today, the University of Arizona community lost Dr. Thomas Meixner.

His passing became a catalyst for change and a lasting reminder of the responsibility we share to create a culture of safety, care, and preparedness across our campus.

As UAEMS members, we honor Dr. Meixner’s memory through our Oath for Tom: a never ending commitment to building a safer campus by broadening access to and knowledge of safety resources, strengthening communication, and caring for one another.

We contribute to this mission by providing high-quality emergency care while expanding access to safety education, preparedness, and resources throughout our community.

Today, we remember Tom, we honor those who continue to carry his legacy forward, and we recommit ourselves to serving our Wildcat community with sincerity, empathy, and clinical excellence. by @ua_ems

UAEMS is on scene for the Family Weekend Tailgate 🏈

With a campus full of Wildcats and their loved ones, UAEMS worked diligently to strategically mobilize crews across campus to cover high-density areas and address medical needs as they arose.

We started our day celebrating our EMS family with brunch at our station, then crews attended event briefings and prepared for service.

As always, remember to have fun, be safe, and BEAR DOWN 🐻⬇️

Public Health Alert: Cychlorphine

What is it: The drug was detected 09/2026 in California among counterfeited drug tablets, which were found to either have traces of the substance or significant quantities. Its presence in California suggests that illicit drug supplies in Arizona may soon see this substance and complicate prehospital treatment of suspected opioid overdoses.

Additionally, a wave of misinformation has spread suggesting that naloxone (Narcan) is ineffective against Cychlorphine overdoses.
Currently, there is no published clinical evidence to support the claim that naloxone is ineffective for reversing cychlorphine overdose.

Signs/Symptoms:
Decreased Levels of Consciousness
Respiratory Depression
Unconsciousness
Cyanosis (blue or gray skin)
Respiratory Failure

*Cychlorphine may be mixed with other drugs, so symptoms may vary from those of a traditional opioid overdose

Treatment:
This drug should be treated as any other Opioid overdose, by immediately calling 911 and administering Naloxone. Multiple doses may be required given its estimated ~10-fold greater potency than fentanyl.

🚨 UAEMS takes on the 9/11 Stair Climb 🇺🇸

Today, UAEMS members climbed 110 flights of stairs at Casino Del Sol Stadium to climb in honor of the 343 firefighters and 9/11 first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Each step represents a life remembered, a family forever changed, and a commitment to never forget. We climb for those who ran toward danger, and for the first responders who continue to serve their communities every day.

🖤 343 remembered. Always honored. Never forgotten.
