Federal funding has been eliminated, but KUAF has not backed away from its mission. Replacing that support is not a one-year challenge. It is something we must meet together every year.

To honor the 25th anniversary of 9/11, the Center for Media Ethics and Literacy hosted six guest speakers with connections to the University of Arkansas who shared their experiences and perspectives on 9/11 and its lasting impact on journalism. We thank them for taking the time to speak with our students.

Michael Frazier — UA graduate who served as executive vice president and deputy director for external affairs at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.

Michael Britt — UA graduate who was attending a conference with UA interns inside the World Trade Center on Sept. 11. He is now the chief financial officer of Ozark-Ag.

Gina Shelton — Director of the Center for Media Ethics and Literacy and former Associated Press reporter who covered the aftermath of the attacks, including the U.S. military and legal response.

Alyson Low — Former Arkansas Traveler editor-in-chief who shared her family’s connection to 9/11. Her sister, Sara Low, a 1995 UA graduate, was a flight attendant on American Airlines Flight 11.

Joel Gordon — UA history professor who discussed media coverage and the political and cultural impact of 9/11.

David Handschuh — Former visiting distinguished professor of ethics for the School of Journalism and Strategic Media who covered the Sept. 11 attacks as a photojournalist for the New York Daily News and was injured while photographing the collapse of the World Trade Center towers. by @uarkjournalism
