Three. Years. Running.

For the first time in program history, our Varsity 8+ defended their Brown Cup title for 3 years in a row.

This took every bird to get here, and the win belongs to the whole team. To a team that uplifts each other. To a team that pushes for each other. To the coaches that believed in us. And to our 2V 8+ who fought hard and left it all out on the water, that’s what being a bird is all about. We are proud of you.

And to all the graduating athletes, thank you for all that you’ve poured into the program.

Our ‘birds kicked off the fall season at the Western Canadian University Rowing Championships and Burnaby Lake Small Boat Regatta earlier this month.

We also had some stand out performances at Burnaby Lake Small Boat Regatta, with Willow Cherewaty and Madelyn Vandermeer placing 4th in the 2-, Morgan Harris-Stoertz placing 7th in the 1x, and Alex Duggan and Abi Nicholson placing 2nd in the 2x.

Your women’s TAC athlete of the week is @morganharrisstoertz!!!! She won the light single and came second at Western CU’s. Placed 7th overall in the single beating a national heavy weights at Burnaby small boat. ⚡️🦅

This Saturday, September 26th, UBC Men’s and Women’s Rowing athletes will be using stem-cell swab kits to join the donor registry for Canadian Blood Services, supporting the example of Vike’s Men’s and Women’s Rowing.

Following Calgary-born Vikes rower Max Pohl’s diagnosis with bone marrow cancer, Max began an initiative encouraging eligible donors to join the registry where he found a stem cell donor.

Less than 25% of patients who require a stem cell transplant find a donor within their family, and a match for a patient in Canada can only be found about 50% of the time. We encourage all healthy people aged 17-35 to join our effort in broadening the international registry for stem cell donors. A no-cost, 5 minute cheek swab is all it takes. Additionally, generous donors from Max’s team have created 4 monthly drawings for $1000 each for eligible donors!
