Happy Birthday to Sonya “The Scholar” Lamonakis from the Universal Boxing Federation! 🥊🎂🏆

Sonya’s story has always represented much more than boxing. Outside the ring, she built a career as a New York City public school teacher, earning the nickname “The Scholar” while balancing education with a demanding professional boxing career.

Inside the ring, Sonya became the IBO World Female Heavyweight Champion and also captured the New York State female heavyweight title. She later challenged for the vacant UBF World Female Heavyweight Championship, including her 2017 world-title bout with Laura Ramsey.

Her contributions to women’s boxing were further recognized when she was inducted into the International Women’s Boxing Hall of Fame in 2023, placing her among the sport’s respected pioneers and champions.

Today, we celebrate a teacher, world champion, Hall of Famer, UBF world-title challenger, and lifelong ambassador for boxing.

Happy Birthday, Sonya. The UBF family wishes you continued health, happiness, success, and another champion year ahead. 🥊🌎🏆
