The Monday After! Itโ€™s been a week today since I bid goodbye to the home that was HUL. The past week has largely been a blur, with goodbyes, squishy hugs, resident lumps, some missed goodbyes, moving (againnnn!!) and trying to set up the new home (incomplete still) and transits! I do a terrible job of goodbyes, I think! Mostly because, I am not a fan of them. Oh, but yes, every new beginning comes from some other beginningโ€™s end! (goes on to sing Closing time, for the nth time) How incredibly lucky I am to have earned a beautiful bunch of friends over the years! A bunch that didnโ€™t make farewells seems like the end of a chapter, because friendships will surely continue. Just that I wonโ€™t be in the daily company of these folks, get to work on incredible brands, and prance around in the campus that is luxury at its best. Hereโ€™s to the bunch of folks (manny not in pictures here, thanks to my amazingly storage stricken/unorganized phone) who filled the everyday with cackles and giggles and chai and hugs and learnings and all things wonderful, even on the days when sometimes they didnโ€™t go well, as they sometimes do! Mighty grateful to the institution that is HUL, for always giving me the space to be, even if it meant granting a sabbatical to learn pottery, I mean!!! So grateful for friends from both my workplaces thus far! The warmth of friendships made in adulthood, is very wholesome, indeed! Hereโ€™s to continued friendships, to new beginnings, a dream manifested so hard basis an itch that refused to leave, and gravitating towards a deep sense of stillness in movement. Hereโ€™s to taking a huge and heavy breath, leaving behind all that seems comfortable and assuring and secure, and diving straight in, into the unfamiliar. (Funny that I donโ€™t even know swimming, ah but doesnโ€™t that old saying go like, throw yourself into water and youโ€™ll figure swimming, something like that is being figured with whatever this little life is of ours) Oh but through all of the whirlwind that awaits, I find comfort in the fact that this beautiful bunch that was a part of the everyday, will be just a call away and maybe just a โ€˜Chal chai peete hai adda/tapri pe!โ€™ away! by @ubikutty
Recently watched this warm and witty movie - โ€˜The Sheep Detectivesโ€™! A movie with fluffs, (but no fluff) that begins as what you think would be a kidโ€™s movie and slowly, but surely takes you by surprise. I ended up chuckling at bits and discovering that those are the ones that stay with you the most. Avoiding death, forgetting to avoid facing fear, God - are such burdensome topics that are handled so deftly by the fluffs without resorting to any faff. And this movie with fluffs took me back to this scene from a sleepy weekend in Coonoor from back in time. I just couldnโ€™t get it out of my head until I had sketched it out once back from the trip! Mesmerised by the century old trees in Simโ€™s park, we had headed to the famed tea gardens only to find nothing really operational there in the sleepy town. There was this lady though, that emerged out of nowhere, with a flock of sheep, happily grazing ..in the tea garden!! The sheep ๐Ÿ‘, had the thickest coat that was possibly never sheared!! She had a shirt on, atop her saari and had the flashiest pink underskirt (my head can only call this a petticoat, thanks to the resident maharashtrian in my head). As if sheep grazing on tea leaves, that are plucked as well, is not enough, she also had WHITE SNEAKERS on!! No, I wasnโ€™t hallucinating! Watching Hugh Jackman in the movie reminded me of the peaceful aura she exuded along with the extra sass on that sleepy afternoon! Nothing very loud and yet so very bold! Owning and minding her business with just the right amount of sass! And I can only wonder if her flock was similarly witty! Bleat! Bleat! One Whole year of being a Corporate Escapee. Naadaan Parinda Phir Se Udd Chala. ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ Corporate mid-year sync is aligning perfectly with my one-year anniversary of corporate rihaai. Old habits die hard. So, I put down some notes on a year of starting small and slow. A year of being mildly obsessed with seemingly silly things like clay, plants, soil, and making food to illustrations to whatnots. Jotting down the real annual appraisal note on the year that has gone by. โžก๏ธ Cheers and Amen! โœจ Now shall go back to hiding away from posting here. Yay! by @ubikutty
Malayalam cinema is having/has been having a moment. And that is not going to cease anytime soon. I am not over Balan. Will not be anytime soon. Just like I am not over Manjummel Boys. Will never be. Such ridiculously poetic frames. Such deceptively simple stories, deftly handling multiple themes, concocted with equal parts of every emotion. They dole out profound life lessons in the most matter-of-fact manner. And donโ€™t even get me started on the music. To be honest, these donโ€™t even scratch the surface of what is being offered to the audience by the Malayalam cinema. There are very many frames to obsess over. (Balan frames, I have my eyes set on you) But for now hereโ€™s an illustration from the archives. Seek Help Kumblangi Nights. Drawn and posted in 2020. Reviving here on the gram, while listening to the songs a gazillionth time, this rainy afternoon! Drawn on @procreate by @ubikutty

Of Green Screens & Full Circles. After years of being in my parentsโ€™ home, somewhere inaccessible in the storage, this green board, has made its way into in my studio room!!๐Ÿฅน When the four holes were drilled and the board was put up, out of sheer joy, I tried telling the story of this board to the handyman. It is as old as my childhood, I said. He sure wasnโ€™t as enthused as me. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ My parents took physics & chemistry classes for the kids in the town where i grew up. (Massive hugs to all the Rasayanikars!) ๐Ÿซ‚ And our living room (a fancy word for hall) was a bare room with just this board. With no other piece of furniture in the room, it served as the board for amma and achan to teach the handful of kids that perched themselves onto the floor. Why the green board and not the quintessential black board you ask? Apparently you can wipe off chalk without much chalk dust flying off and glass boards are more durable than black painted off on a wall and...etc is what my achan had explained to a very kutty me. ๐Ÿค“ Apart from being the board for the classes, it acted as the perfect backdrop for the gazillion photos that achan clicked on his then sony digi-camera. So, much before I got hooked on to the world of advertising and marketing, there existed a green screen back at home! Serendipitous much? ๐Ÿคญ To have this piece of furniture, (oh how much more than that word this is), a glass slab, painted green, framed in aluminium strips at a local shop that has stood silently throughout my growing yrs, coming back to me, is a full circle moment indeed. โœจ Oh btw, amma achan went on to conduct classes in a larger rented space later. Some furniture thus made its way into the hall. But this little board stayed on back at home. They got a new, better(?), bigger board for their classes. When they wrapped up the classes, the better board and nilkamal chairs from that space got donated to an orphanage. This one stayed on, even when we shifted homes and โ€˜no longer needed itโ€™.๐Ÿ˜ฌ Chalks -of all colours have been called upon. To do lists and measurements, I hope to scribble upon this board. ๐Ÿคž For Green Glass-boards and Full Circle moments. Only gratitude. โœจ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿฅน by @ubikutty
Me: (who has finally woken up from a โ€˜content creation hibernationโ€™) Nee, should I post this time-lapse as a story or a reel? N: (nods) Me: What are you nodding, man? Story or a reel? N: I donโ€™t know the difference between the two!๐Ÿซฃ Me:๐Ÿฅฒ -End of Conversation- Oh, the irony hits me as I post this silly timelapse as a reel, for it to be a greater than 24hr placeholder for a memory of this moment! ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ Luckily for me, he will never know what I finally did with this lil video here, as my biggest cheerleader doesnโ€™t have the app on his phone! โค๏ธโœจ by @ubikutty
November recap!โœจ๐ŸŒธ Putting together these little monthly recap / gratitude diary entries has slowly become a ritual I genuinely look forward to. And in what felt like a long, stretchy month, I almost forgot how much had really happened. Dearest @anoop.sasidharan got married, I met a bunch of lovely friends in Bangalore (and, true to uru, missed meeting so many others!๐Ÿฅฒ). And of course โ€” it was the drop month. Dรฉjร  Vu.๐Ÿฅน My heartiest gratitude to every single soul and moment that led to it.โค๏ธ๐Ÿซ‚ There were roughly a gazillion photos clicked for โ€œdrop contentโ€ that never made it out, last-minute panic, powering through tech glitches, and the thrill of watching each โ€˜SKUโ€™ move from โ€˜inventoryโ€™ to โ€˜sold out.โ€™๐Ÿ˜ฌ Then came the mountain of packingโ€ฆ and packingโ€ฆ and shippingโ€ฆ and tracking!๐Ÿ“ฆ After all that, a well-deserved state of hibernation has set in on the wheel front. Itโ€™s been sprinkled with some Bombay nostalgia darshan and sweet meet-ups with A&A.๐Ÿค— The month wrapped with a tiny BLR trip for the most wholesome wellness retreat, where I got to conduct a Play with Clay session for the loveliest bunch. @wellnessretreats.in December is the hibernation month โ€” spending quality time with the fam and quietly dreaming up ideas for the next droppp โœจ Happy holidays ๐Ÿคโœจโค๏ธ P.S. It felt only fitting to use a track from my most-played album on @spotify for this diary entry โ€” @ronnie_and_barty through their Chapter one album, have been my constant studio companions this year, and my Spotify Wrapped agrees, no surprises there!๐Ÿคญโœจ by @ubikutty
Going home impromptu on a Thursday evening for chai and snacks, & then seeing Amma slowly savour her chai (chaya) in a mug made by yours truly, While munching on pazhampori (banana fritters)! Is, definitely my definition of sukoon and shanti! ๐Ÿฅนโœจ๐ŸŒธ (Pazhampori obviously not in frame, since was in tummy ๐Ÿคญ) by @ubikutty
The packing extravaganza ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ“ฆ If I thought making was the toughest part, glazing and firing were waiting just ahead with sly little smiles. Cross those, and the lead-up to the drop โ€” and the drop itself โ€” were cackling too. And just when I thought Iโ€™d earned a celebratory power nap after selling outโ€ฆ the mammoth task of packing and shipping arrived, waving brightly. Everything that had to be shipped is now out the door. We are still tracking a few parcels, but most have already reached their new homes. And honestly? We took an inordinate amount of time packing โ€” partly because itโ€™s ceramics (fragile little beings), and partly because N will not rest unless every line, label, and sticker is perfectly, painfully straight.๐Ÿซฃ But all of it becomes completely worth it the moment we hear that a package has reached safely. Here are some bits and bobs from the packing marathon. Potter friends โ€” if thereโ€™s anything I can help you with when it comes to packing, just say the word. P.S. Except for the clear tape on the label and the fragile sticker, the boxes went out plastic-free! Slowly inching toward zero-plastic shipping ๐ŸคŽ P.P.S Big ups to N for patiently packing and shipping em all safely! โค๏ธ๐Ÿซ‚ by @ubikutty
