Packed room for our Day School on Saturday — Ireland: from Conquest to Re-conquest.

We had excellent discussions about the Cromwellian Conquest of Ireland, the Rebellion of 1798, and finally, the struggle for a United Ireland today. All the sessions demonstrated that only the scientific method of Marxism is capable of understanding the real processes that have shaped Irish history for 800 years.

Like Connolly, we study our history not as an academic exercise, but in order to understand the lessons it holds for today's revolutionaries.

If you are ready to join us in the fight for a Socialist United Ireland in our lifetime, then head to communism.ie/join today to get organised!

On Saturday we held our biggest meeting ever! With 71 tickets sold, our day school on Irish history was a spectacular success.

As the flames of revolt spread across Europe, there's no task we can dedicate ourselves to that's more pressing than that of building the forces of revolutionary communism here in Ireland and, in doing so, raising our understanding of the rich revolutionary traditions that the Irish working class inherits today.

If you want to join us in this work, then head to communism.ie/join to learn how you can get involved!

Interview with a non-EU PhD student on the reality of being a researcher in Ireland 🛑

We spoke with a non-EU PhD student on the picket line in UCD during the public sector strike on 14 October. Capitalism relies heavily on the labour of international researchers, but it uses the visa system to keep them vulnerable and hyper-exploited.

From stipends below minimum wage and zero pension contributions, to visa rules that legally prevent their spouses from working. Even after four years of producing vital research, their time contributes absolutely nothing towards citizenship. The system wants their labour but it refuses to grant them basic rights

Anti-immigration laws are tools used by the ruling class to divide workers. As she says: “If we are together, then we can’t be divided.” Solidarity with all migrant workers! ✊🚩 by @ucdcommunists

On Wednesday 14 October, comrades stood in solidarity with striking public sector workers across Ireland.

300,000 public sector workers went on strike this week to demand a wage increase that lets them make up for the cuts to real pay they've been forced to take in recent years by the cost of living crisis.

We extent our full solidarity with all workers who went out on strike this week and we support them fully in their plan to come out again on Wednesday the 21st. The overwhelming ballots in favour of strike action demonstrate that public sector workers have been pushed to their limits and they are prepared to fight for a decent pay deal.

Simon Harris and Jack Chambers, for their part, have demonstrated that they won't concede to the workers' reasonable demands on the basis of polite negotiations, but only if they are forced to do so by the workers to make this country run every day.

Victory to the public sector workers! ✊

Interview with Eden Skehan of the PWO 🗣️🚩

Capitalism loves to boast that it’s the engine of
“innovation”. But look at how it treats the actual innovators 🔴

Today we spoke with Eden Skehan, President of the
PWO, on the picket line in UCD during the public sector strike on 14 October. Graduate researchers are the ones doing the vital work that pushes society forward. As Eden explains, without their labour, universities wouldn’t function.

Under this system, these same researchers are denied basic worker recognition, denied access to regularised employment, and left struggling as the cost of living rises. Capitalism doesn’t reward innovation; it exploits it.

It’s time for graduate researchers to rise up and defend each other. Solidarity with the PWO and all
striking workers! ✊🏼🚩 by @ucdcommunists

Over 300,000 workers were on strike across Ireland yesterday, and UCD students and staff were out in full force at Belfield ✊🚩

Why were we on the picket lines?
📉 Workers are demanding real pay increases to make up for years of stagnant wages and cuts to their living standards.
⚖️ UCD staff, especially PhD students and post-docs, are earning below minimum wage.
🏠 Workers are being priced out of housing in an increasingly expensive city.

We stood in full solidarity with the strikers yesterday. The working class makes this country run. It’s time to fight for what we deserve. Victory to the workers! by @ucdcommunists
